Which cowl hood?

I've done some searches but different ppl seem to like diff hoods. I'm undecided on whether to get a Cervini 2.5" cowl hood or Goodmark 2.5" cowl hood. Roughly how much lighter is the Cervini when compared to the Goodmark? I like the look of the Cervini better, however I have the feeling that the fiberglass is weaker and would crack over time. Goodmark is 45 minutes from me so I could save a ton on freight if I picked it up from the factory.

Re: Which cowl hood?

Goodmark is a good hood. Also you might want to look at the Harwood 2" show hood. It is finished smooth underneath and look flawless.

Re: Which cowl hood?

A local restoration company can get me a Goodmark 2.5" cowl hood for $438 out the door. Thats about $200 cheaper than a Cervini.

Re: Which cowl hood?

Does anyone know if a 2.5" cowl will clear a Edel Perf RPM Air Gap, 1" spacer, 700DP with a 14x3" air cleaner?

Re: Which cowl hood?

I bought one from Champion Fiberglass products and am completely happy with it. It took very little prep to paint.

I am running the RPM Air Gap intake with a Holley 750, dropbase with 2" filter under a stock 92 Z28 hood. I have about 1/2 inch clearance. So yeah, you will be fine with the 2.5 in hood.

How much of a drop base though? Mine might be a 1/2"-1" drop base at most.

Re: Which cowl hood?

I did some rough measuring tonight. I laid a straight edge across the top edge of the fenders and measure how far air cleaner is sitting above the fender and came up with 2.5" roughly. When they say a 2.5" cowl, how do they measure it? I just want make sure I dont order a hood that won't fit.

Re: Which cowl hood?

Are you already running the intake with a dropbase under the stock hood?

If so and all you want to do is add a 1" spacer, then you dont have to worry going to a 2.5 in cowl. You will be fine and should be able to go to a taller air filter.

I currently have no hood at all. My air cleaner sticks about 2.5" above the fenders. I had to run a 1" spacer to clear the accl pump arm on my carburetor.
