T top Leak and sound problem...

Hi everyone and have a nice day...

I have 1991 TA GTA and when it is raining it leeks but very tiny drops. I found the prolem: It was the rubber part at the end of the glasses, when I close the door this rubber part goes inside the door glass so it allows water to come in... I think I need a replacement for this rubber part or the whole t top maybe... And just to find a solution I am asking this: At high speed my t tops sounds very badly. Wind sounds very highly that I started to think that the car is flying or something Do you have ant suggestions about that? What should I do about both??

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

hey welcome man, sounds like the t-top isn't sealed completely... if the t top isn't locked down there is a chance that it could blow off while going down the highway... there are the rods that lock the t top to the car (by the a-pillar and roof behind the door there are pieces of metal that the pins slid into which secures the t tops down.) You can loosen then and adjust the height of them so that it sucks the t top down more. this could stop the air from getting under them and causting that noise. i know that i didn't explain it very well but if u have a ? just let me know or search for another post about it. -Matt

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

if you remove the trim that the rods go into you will see 2 adj disk, one per rod. loosen these 8 mm (might be 7mm) screws and move the disk around till you get the looseness out of the top. after each try lock the top down and see if its loose.
another sugguestion is to turn the top upsid down on a table with a cloth under the glass. CAREFULLY remove the seal from the track and you will see 4 phillips head screws, loosen these and slide the track down a lil bit and this will help seal it back as well.
another thing to look at is door sag, if your door is sagging the glass wont seal properly ither. the pressure the glass puts on the main body seal and the top glass seal prevents leaking if all parts are in correct contact.

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

Yes Thanks for your advices I will try it tomorrow first thing in the morning but still I have some doubts about the leak... I think I understand the solution for the wind sound but the leak; I am not very clear. I did explained my question right, right?? The leak is coming from the window's top place... I mean when you close the window and look to the jointment with t top and the front glass corner, it comes from there... It is like 3 parts that touching themselves... just another explanation: I sat to the driver seat, looked to the t top end, followed it to the front glass, and here it is the leak.... At the joint of 3 parts: t top window and the front glass' corner....

Again thanks for your replies...
Hava a nice day...

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

no sweat Engo, i re read yoiur post and the glass is getting a hold of the seal that should be outside. might wanna look at that glass adj. it might be to high.
something i can sugguest is get on ebay and find someone selling a HELM repair manual for your car. DONT get the hayes book as it covers a range of years and is about 1½ inch thick. the HELM book is 2 inches thick and covers YOUR MODEL YEAR ONLY. so it has info the hayes dodent have.
it will have the info on how to properly adj your door glass and can help in other areas of the car.
if ya can snap a shot of what the seal is doing when the door is closed.

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

There are some photos of my t top. These three photos are taken when the door is closed and the rubber part is inside... In one of the photos I am taking out the part that is under the window. If I take it out there is no leak but if it is inside it leaks... And of course this is the driver side...

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

Yes I did what you said and wind sound gone I think.. Because before the adj. there was a disturbing sound like 2 plastic part barely touches themselfs. Another expl: Like when you touch your finger to a wet balloon there comes a very disturbing sound, that is the sound that I am talking about...

But I could not solve the leaking problem...

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

so where the weather strip is folded under the window is where it leaks water? you can buy new plastic ones, I think I got mine from Hawks.

Re: T top Leak and sound problem...

now i see whats going on, your "flapper" is sagging some and is getting in the way. that is a VERY easy fix. as mentioned in a previous post, turn the top upside down and remove the seal and remove the plastic trim part . this will req a torx head for the handle and a phillps to remove the cover.

now the top seal is easier to deal with. as mentioned CAREFULLYpull the top glass seal out and remove the 4 screws behind it. once those are out the "flapper" (its nickname) is accesable. ither it has slipped down or is stretched or tearing away is why its getting caught in the glass. the new piece is aval mentioned by Tmic at Hawks or you can try the dealer.

the new pieces are a hard plastic and stay nicer.

I dont know if they can help you but I know of a business online
that helped me replace my ttops and they seemed to be very knowledgable.

i paid little for my ttops both times. he even gave me a discount the second time around and i got them in like two days!

anyways, his name is Brian and his company is T-TOps Online

you can find their page here: www.t-topsonline.com

good luck and let me know what happens

Were left in the dust when it comes to parts these days. Maybe they can make you a good deal on a top thats complete? it never hurts to ask
