subframe question

I was in a wreck last week and smashed up the front drivers side of my 84 camaro. I found out that the sub-frame is bent - pushed right about 1 1/2 inches. Can I replace the sub-frame itself or is my car dead?

Re: subframe question

If you can post pics of the damage, you will probably get alot more help.I have seen people here fix some pretty mangled cars.Chances are that with your pics, some of these people will be able to tell you whether it can be fixed, how much its going to take to fix,and possibly take you step by step through the whole process.Good luck,Tim

Re: subframe question

The subframes are welded in and aren't really replaceable. It might be possible to straighten it, although it might not be worth it.

Re: subframe question

If the front inner structure is simply just knocked over a good bit it shouldn't be a big deal. Most body shops can pull it back straight without issue. If you are willing to do some of the work you can have it pulled for a few hundred and then take it back home and replace the bent panels yourself. If the car is drivable, take it to a few shops for an estimate. Some shops may want you to remove some panels first (if they are only doing the pull). But again, it mostly depends on how the car was hit and what exactly is bent.
