Side skirts the same???

Are the side skirts of say an '88 RS (sports coupe) and an '88 Trans am the same??? I have the side skirts and doors with the door panels still on them from my '88 RS and would like to replace my firebird doors and convert into a T/A body, but i don't wanna put the side skirt set on after painting if it's going to be different looking. I figure the less parts i have to look for at the moment in this transformation the better/cheaper and then i'd just have to get the bumpers and fender skirt extentions. Thanks for any help!

Re: Side skirts the same???

you'll need to weld up the holes from the camaro gfx and drill new for the Trans Am gfx.

Re: Side skirts the same???

and you'll have to tack weld the metal supports under your rocker panels to support the ground effects.

Re: Side skirts the same???

pita to make the brackets ... just go with a cordless drill and remove them from a car at the bone yard ... much easier doing it that way.

My buddy and I put an RS door on his '86 T/A last year and I don't remember having to do that. I sort of remember having to elongate the two end holes though.

cool, thats good news for me because I plan on putting some 91-92 Camaro gfx onto my Trans Am in the near future, and I hate welding on my car.

If that's the case, you may not need to do anything at all. The door we put on the '86 T/A was from an '89 RS. A while back I put a '92 RS door on my old '86 IROC and I remember having to elongate the two end holes on that too. That would make me think the T/A uses the same bolt hole locations as the '91-'92 Camaro gfx.

I've done the conversion many years ago. The door lower rocker panels were the hardest to install. Ask a guy on here to post a picture where his door sills are on the rocker panel and you will see the screws that bolt into this brace that comes from the bottom of the car. without having this the urethane side rocker panels will start to sag. Aside from that everything else is easy to put on the car.

Ask a guy parting one out can't imagine they would ask more then 15 bucks for these braces. If they do ask someone else LOL

Not sure if camaro's used the same braces but from 84-90 the braces on the trans am should all be the same.
