weather stripping
I hope this is the correct forum. I'm getting ready to replace the center bar in my T-top roof (84 L69 Z28), and at the same time, the weather stripping for that area.
What are your brand recommendations for new weatherstripping for the T-top car?
NO SOF-SEAL please!! I've had enough experience with that junk.
Thanks!

Re: weather stripping
Well, I used Sof-Seal from Classic Industries and it worked great. The t-top kit had all the stripping pieces and plastic trim piece and everything for my car in the kit. The only thing you have to do is check the corners where they meet the body in some spots as there was a slight gap where under a downpour, water could have gotten in. Filled it with silicon and ran my finger along it to make it look nice and you'll never see it and it was leak free.

Re: weather stripping
I purchased new seals from GM last year. Given any thought to original's?

Re: weather stripping
Some places carry them, and the dealer may actually be able to get you some. However, if you thought seal kits were expensive for the aftermarket ones, wait until you see what a set of new go for. If you have the money, great, but I get the same results with OER sets as the originals were just as flawed anyway as far as design for keeping the water out of the car. There are a few spots that GM must have been smoking crack if they thought water would stay out of the car based on what they did.

Re: weather stripping
I got a set of the OER (Original Equipment Replacement) weather stripping from Year One...after I tore both door seals trying to stretch them to fit my door, I gave up and never installed the T-Top Set. Honestly, after that mess, and perhaps I got the wrong one, I don't know, I won't do anything until I can afford GM replacement parts. Hopefully next summer. They are roughly twice the cost of everything else...per side. From year one, the whole OER kit ran me $350.00 for t-tops and both doors. FOr one door, I was looking at $150.00 and for one T-Top side I was looking at nearly $300.00.

Re: weather stripping
I just purchased the GM originals at the dealer and paid less than $250 for both sides. The fit was perfect and they went on with ease. Always check dealers inventory before buying elsewhere. I have seen ttop sets sell for over $400 from 3rd party suppliers. I also saw someone selling the ALDL cover plastic for $11+ shipping. I called my dealer and was told they are still available at $2.30 each. The GM originals can cost more than some aftermarket brands, but you get what you pay for. Eckler's Camaro has the GM TTop set for over $300 and the door sets for $450/pair. I know GM sells the door sets for considerably less.
