license plate issue
ok, so i've been planning on buying a new grill for my 92 camaro since mine's pretty much had it's run.. but the grill i'm getting doesn't really have a place to put the plate.. and it would look very tacky to have a chrome grill with the plate on it..
the great state of washington requires you to have the front plate.. does anyone have any ideas or somthing i could do with my plate to fix this issue?

you could also, just to the ol' red neck way, like my uncle, and put it in the passenger side of the windshield on the dash.

Re: license plate issue
im about 75% sure its legal, in WI. but if you get pulled over, you don't know me. but seriously, i think that it is legal, if you don't have a front licence plate holder, ive seen it a few times on some trucks.

Re: license plate issue
ok i have been lookin for pics but no luck yet... what im talking about is a plate holder that has these 2 flat bars that are bolted to the front bumper impact bar (under the nose the flat metal) it goes under the ground effect and curves up. Then a piece of metal the size of the plate which mounts to the bars. The plate then mounts to that metal. This makes the plate sit in front of the car about 2 inches and it doesn't touch the body of the car at all. I have seen pics of this on this board and ill keep an eye out for you. -Matt

Re: license plate issue
I don't have any good ideas for mounting, but I may be able to chime in re. front window. I live in Oregon, and my old Toyota's mounting brackets broke off, so we went to the DMV and they said that having it in the passenger side windshield would be fine, no problem. A few months later, a cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for having it in the windshield instead of the bumper.
I don't know if Washington works the same way, but in my experience Washington and Oregon are pretty similar on things like that. So it may or may not work.

Re: license plate issue
If the DMV says the windshield plate is legal, get it in writing, on official letterhead. Without that, you have no defense in a court. I'd sspect, a judge would dismiss the ticket, FOR THAT ONE OFFENSE. And tell you no, it's NOT legal, the DMV employee was wrong. Next time your caught, it wouldn't be dismissed.

Re: license plate issue
Next time you see a cop, just ask him.
I'm sure you could get away with it. But all it takes is that one cop that is having a bad day, and your getting pulled over and having to go to court. At least have the plate in the car, and tell the cops you have already ordered a bracket, just waiting for it to come in.

It wasn't dismissed, seeing as it was just a fix-it ticket, which is likely the most anyone will get. I was just posting to say it wasn't as legal as others were saying.
I seriously doubt that any judge would care enough to convict someone for a license plate that is in the wrong place, the most I could ever see is a fix-it ticket, if not just a warning. It really isn't that big of an infraction.

Re: license plate issue
Looks just like what I made fir my GTA, that I posted above. Except I made mine shorter, and can't be seen. Just the plate itself can.
Why'd you mount yours off-center though?
