Is this car worth 500$ ?
Is this car worth 500$ ?
And is it worth saving ? I am a total noob and this will be my first time to workin on a car besides small fixes(brakes/susp.). I live in iceland and we don't have many 3rd gen camaro's and this is the first i find here under 10k. yeah it's a lot under 10k but i've always wanted to learn how fix up and paint cars so i thought why not..
I welcome all comments, good and bad about the car or tips to get me started...
350 tranny
305 engine
Fenders l+r
doors l+r
2xfront bumper (1xiroc)
1xrear bumper
l+r side skirts (iroc)
all windows except front
Interior supposed to be good
and a little bit of rust.. =)
it was started as a project then thrown out when the owner got his hands on his first car again(mach1 73) took him in and threw camaro in the backyard with nothing but a tarp to keep warm.. =(
It was almost ready for paint he said when it was scrapped..
Go ahead and be honest..

Wow, that car is toast.
Why do you want it? Are you searching for a cool daily driver, or a parts car? If that motor and trans is okay I'd say pick it up as a parts car...but you really can't inspect it under all that snow. I'd be careful.

Yeah, It's kinda hard to tell with all the stuff crammed in the interior, but it looks like the car is beyond saving. The engine didn't look too bad though. Maybe it would be worth buying for parts.

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
well thats a tough call, is it really rotted? is all it needs is paint and assembly? is the motor and trans fresh? if the motor and trans is good and just needs paint and assembly and checks out to be majorily rust free then I personally would. But thats just me only you can make the call. I have been told i see what a car COULD be and what it ACTUALLY is- you get the idea

Honestly yes it looks pretty stripped however where you are there is not alot of thirdgens for cheap and you may not find another one this cheap again so I would say go for it. It looks savable to me! If people can buy a rotted out 69 camaro (if the said 69 was a thirdgen people on these boards would say its not savable!) and turn it into a nice car why cant you buy this car that still looks like a camaro n fix it up? I say go for it!

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
id totally fix it up. but thats me. any car can be fixed up if you have the time and money. it doesnt look terrible. i would clean it out and cover it up. and find the rust while the parts are pretty much out off the car. get some glass and what not. its a good project car if its in good shape.

Oh come on guys, thats totaly savable. 500$ with a v8 and floors arent looking that bad. This is a 87 Trans am i bought and it was totaly finished, the frame was litleraly not there anymore in the back. and the body+floors were gone. the interior was the worst part. (Window left open for 2 years in a field) only thing it was good for was the nice strong running L98!!. (witch is in my Iroc now)

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
heh, I agree with Joshh44, I'd try to fix it up... then again, I cant even afford the parts I want for my car..
(but they are slowly coming) but wow.. that car looks like the camaro here in town at a car lot a repair shop keeps as for parts.. it dont have doors, not hatchback, missing rear left tire, missing T-tops, no dash board top, missing left front seat, whole interior is covered in snow and garabage, has no engine, tranny is all F***ed up...
so I probly say it might be the $500 worth for a part car, but other then that, probly not worth much anymore :-(

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
it is hard to say if it is a parts car or a fixer because in the states we have so many available parts that we can fix just about anything. you dont want to start a project just to find out that you can not get the parts you need to finish it for a resonable price.
Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
How much does your average american get in salary per month ?(in dollars)
Cause i'm thinkin maybe buy a car in the states and have it shipped to me but for a car i would buy in the states for 5 grand i end up paying about 9.5k just to get it in my hands... so i am thinkin if i buy that car (above) and have 9k to spend on parts..=)
Just a thought please comment on this so that i may better understand.. =)
Thanks all and by far the best site for Camaro lovers!

Where are you located? As in the front frames are straight and clean I could use a front end. I have my guys in IL. right now picking up a parts car. We will see how good it is when it is here.

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
That car looks salvageable if you wanna fix it up slowly. I would try to get most of that snow out, & wait till the car thaws out...hahaha to take a better look @ her. But in the mean time cover her up tightly. Reason being the car is no totaled just stripped down. One more thing see if you get the enginge started.

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
i say its salvageable......but think about the reassembly. SOmeone else took it apart, so you're goign to have a pretty difficult time putting the bolts, screws, and fateners in the right place. Do they even have these parts with the car??

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
Easy solution, If the motor and tranny are good then buy the car. Get it home rip it apart and see how bad the car really is. If it is a lost cause you will easily get your money back and then some if you end up parting it out.

I still say get it and if its too much work for you put it back on the market to get your money back or part it out as the others are saying

Re: Is this car worth 500$ ?
I agree with this. in the pics theres alot of snow on the engine with no air cleaner over the carb, so you really dont know how much water has gotten into the carb and intake. otherwise if third gens are rare where you live, and you dont mind spending the money, i say go for it.

parts car. Although you kill one third gen, you can save even more. Sounds like a donor commercial.
