Factory Under Coating?

The underside of my Maro appears to have a rubberized under coating. Did some years come with Factory under coating or is this something that someone did later on?

Just curious, thanks!

Re: Factory Under Coating?

I think it was a regional specific thing. My car was originally delivered to a dealer in New York. On my original window sticker it says:

New York Warranty Enhancements- $65
(see dealer for details)

I'm guessing that's the undercoating. Mine has it, and I've seen car's that were originally delivered to Texas that don't have it.

Re: Factory Under Coating?

My car has undercoating, I think it was bought in minestoa or something??

Anyway, it did a good kob because it doesent have any rust underneath. Alot of it is gone now, though, from my leaky pinion seal.

I think it was one of those add on's that dealers try to get you to buy to line their pockets with your dough.

Maybe down south... I know up here it comes in handy if you dont want the car to rust.

I must say, that whoever sprays the cars though, does a really fast job. I bet the just hose the whole underside. I have found it on all kinds of bolts and nuts, and even baked on to parts of the exhaust!

Re: Factory Under Coating?

The last time I bought a new GM car in 1975, the dealer was asking buyers if they wanted the undercarriage undercoated on site for $50 additional charge. Some did and some did not.
