Hey guys about 2 months ago my hood latch went out on me and wont pop the hood open anymore. Sometimes I can get it by pulling the hood opener and driving around for awile and then it will pop up enough for me to open it. Now I have a replacement latch thats ready to go in but my hood isnt opening no matter what I do. Is there anyway I can open it some other way? I was thinking about getting under the car and manually opening it with my hands and having somone pull up as I unlock it. Is that the only way im gonna get it open?

 

pretty much, or if you try having someone push down on the hood while you pull the hood release.

 

If I tried that method, it would just fully re-latch.

I pull up, by the turn signal, where I can get one hand uder the front lip, and "hit" the hood where the latch is, while maintaining a "pull" on the hood, with my other hand. Pops right loose.

But is it the (your) latch itself, or the cable not pulling far enough, to unlatch?

 

Its the latch itself when I got it open a few weeks ago I checked it out and the latch is the problem. When I pull the hood opener inside the car it makes the noise it should a big pop noise but the hood doesnt come up

 

mine dose that i had to pull on the hood after poping the latch and it would open i greased it up and it pops everytime now

 

Ok I got it open and the hood latch unscrewed and out and now I dont know how to get this plastic piece out. Heres a pictures:

 

It "just" slides out, the opening of the "C" shaped metal. But it might be stuck in there after 20 years, besides it being a bit of a press fit to begin with, or else it might simply fall out.

It'lll take some "persuation", but be careful not the bust the white plastic. It might be a brittle after all these years.

 

I used to do the samething pulling up with one hand and giving it a little bang with the other. It used to just pull right up.

If it's not letting go, it's usually because it's bent in someway. I banged mine with a rubber mallet and got it to where it looked straight by eye and it would open up at that point with less effort. Also, a little grease on the hoodside of the latch doesn't hurt either.
