Help opening hood

HI, anyone have a good way to open a hood that won't respond to the interior pull handle? Thanks in advance!

Re: Help opening hood

When mine was doing that, I had to hit the front of the hood right above the latch with my palms and play around with the release cable to get it to open. It normally took me 4-5 tries to get it to open so it is a little tricky. I would try that first, mainly because I can't think of any other way to do it.

Re: Help opening hood

look up underneath the dash and see if the cable is moving when you pull. if not pull the cable by hand or with pliers. If it is see if you can get a visual on the latch and cable from under the vehicle or from the fender well and see if the latch is what is failed or if the cable failed. If the technical approach doesnt suit you, try a pry bar. oh, also if you can hear the latch operating and it doesnt POP, hit the hood with your hand while having someone hold the handle back. this happens as well sometimes when the striker sticks.

Re: Help opening hood

ooorrr you could just do it the easy and quick way, get under the car (idk how big you are, i'm about 5'7 and 160 and i can slide under no problem. once you get under, just reach up and pull the latch that's holding it down, then once you have it open, make sure the cable's hooked onto the little clip inside.

Re: Help opening hood

I always thought the hood not opening was a normal camaro thing. I've had four 3rd gens now, and every one of them needed a little love tap to open the hood. You just have to hit them a little right above the latch.

Yeah, GM designed these cars so you'd have to smack the hood to get it to open...

My hood started doing that and I took 30 seconds and just adjusted the latch mechanism down a bit and it's back to opening up on the first tug.
