I have an 83 Trans Am side scoop ram air, i want to keep my stock hood, i have a performer intake and just bought holley 650 cfm dp mech secondary street hp, with 3/4" adapter plate, i bought an air cleaner that has a deep dish to fit over the carb and am going with a 2.3" wide by 14" o.d k&n filter (on order), has anyone made this work before?

your going to need the drop filter plate on the bottom instead of the regular one the hood should close than i have the extreme k&n filter with the same detentions and mine fit with the stock hood

I use a 14x3 open element with a Moroso lid and dropped base.
Sits on a Holley carb with an RPM Air Gap. There is zero hood clearence. In fact the top of the filter housing rubs on the hood and I'm using a glass hood from an 82 Z28 for maximum room.
A shorter element brings the filter lid too close to the choke horn.
Still looking for solutions.

wow! you fit an air gap in there nice work i would try make sure it isnt bending anything though that must be a harsh fit, i dont require a choke so thats one less problem to deal with.

I have a 82 firebird with a flat hood, performer intake, 1406 carb with a 1" carb spacer and a 14x3 with a drop filter plate, the hood closes but the top of the filter housing rubs on the hood

It should fit, you'll probably have 1/4" to 1/2" in between filter and the hood.
