That's it, hatch pulldown is going in the garbage
I've got over $200 in to my hatch pulldown and I'm getting rid of this junk. If anyone has a 82-85 truck latch I will definatly pay for it. I need one badly as I don't have a car until it's in. I'm ready to junk the whole car because of this ridiculous design..

I agree the hatch pull down design is a P.O.S. Whoever designed it should spend an eternity in hell being kicked in the ********* repeatedly.... I did the conversion on my 90 RS. It works, I have a power trunk release and all of the torque-twist dosent break it anymore!!! I am happy.
Good luck on yours!!!

Working pull downs are all over the junk yards around here. Just look in the Caddys and Buicks.

The problem with mine, is the huge amounts of torque from the motor, twist the car so badly, that it stresses the plastic gearbox to the point of breaking...

I've tried the junk yards.. I just bought a reinforced plastic gearbox holder from Lon at TDS, but it didn't fit my new Delphi one I purchased 6 months ago that just busted in half. So, I ordered another OEM motor from Lon..
Thank god for TDS eh?

i have not had any problems with my hatch pull down yet but it does seem to stress a lot with my new gasket back there so i would be very interested in a manual conversion if there is such a thing.

Yeah, my Rs has a 427 ci LS-1 launching off the transbrake twists the car pretty badly. I heard the last one break! LOL You can buy the plastic gearbox from www.modernmuscle.com really cheap. I put an 85 trans-am latch in mine. was easy. Good luck!
