Competed 87 IROC
Here are a cople of shots my completed 87 project. I've been working on this for a good few years now. it's designed to look almost stock on the outside ( with the exception of the 91 wing). It's got a 92 LT-1 engine, centerforce clutch, 5 speed, aluminum driveshaft and a 9 bolt. For chassi stiffening it's got subframe connectors welded to the the mounting plates of a 6 point rollcage. The battery sits in the right rear seat area. The brakes are by Baer and they are cooled in the front by cooling ducts. The signal lights are still in there and work fine. The suspension has been lowered about two inches, and i had the rear control arms and panhard rod boxed for extra strenght. This has been a real blast to build and drive. This site has given me allot of good info on the engine swap as well as other tips. SO thanks for that! Hope you guys get a kick out of it! Another one saved from the crusher!

Re: Competed 87 IROC
The seats are actually APC seats that i had reupholstered at a local shop. I had the black fabric taken off and some GM style velour added. i also had the door panels redone at the same time. The seats work pretty well at the track.......but they are not as comfortable as the original ones.....

LOL, from the camcorder mount on the bar, I'm guessing you autocross.... Can you post pics of your battery area? I'm curious.... Where did you get that 'cage?

Re: Competed 87 IROC
I use the video camera mount for the driving schools...great fun to watch "who you passed" and "who passed you".. with the TPI 305, i had nothin left over 100mph....with the LT-1, it seems to keep going and going. I've gotten around allot of turbo 911's (in the hands of some people), and kept up with some pretty skilled drivers. The cage is an "autopower" from california. They make these for SCCA racing and they fit great. This was an $800 cage that i got on e-bay for $102, used......but are they really used? this one just needed a nice repaint. I'll try to get some shots of the battery relocation. it wasn't all that easy.....after the seats are removed, the floor is bowl shaped.....not exactly flat.....i had to weld up my own flat platform to sit the box on.....i also used a dry cell battery.....i don't like the thought of getting battery acid sprayed on me......

Re: Competed 87 IROC
I dont mind a little work. Who cares if its used!! LOL, I'd take it!!! I race SCCA too (fs-b) It looks like a well built car. My RS has a 427 ci LS1, and is down right now for a major rebuild, so nows the time for mods like that!! I am hoping to have it together for next season, but money is a problem lately. I will look forward to pics of the battery box.... Thanks!!

Re: Competed 87 IROC
Well here's a couple of shots of the battery box install. the positive is routed under the center console to near the bellhousing- there is goes through the floor to the starter. the ground just goes straight to the rollcage. Does your car have a cage in it? I've avoided reall SCCA racing becuse I never want to wreck my car.....driving schools give me lots of driving without as much risk......good stuff............

Re: Competed 87 IROC
Actually I don't really have any good before pictures....this thing looked pretty good before, aside of some peeling paint on the right side from some very old touchup ( i think it was done with lacquer). The body was pretty striaght and the floors only had one small rusty spot by the drivers side in the far front corner....looks like there was a bunch of leaves that got in ther from outside and rusted it up.........but in comparison to some of the "floor" shots i've seen on here lately, they looked like new.......I'll do some more digging and see if there's any shots before.....

Re: Competed 87 IROC
I race "Solo". Solo events are with only you on the track, racing against the clock (Other peoples times). Check with your local scca listings on the internet, for meeting places and dates. Their tech inspection is usually a little "Loose" , in that you have to have a tied down battery, no loose stuff in the trunk, etc... I like the battery box install, looks really clean!!! The solo events usually meet on one sunday every month, depending on the region. Check out the rules on the net, as some mods will put you in a class with some truly high-horespower cars!!! Each region is different though. It's fun to see how well your car stacks up against other cars, like Ferrari, porsche, aston martin, etc. It's a lot of fun!
