hello i am new here i recently aquired a 1988 trans am gta with 5.7L engine i had to put a fuel pump in the car to get it to run but now the filler neck is messed up and the stock cap doesn't fit correctly anymore i was wondering if there is a universal cap out there somewhere that would help me with this problem. the stock cap when on the car tends to leak a little bit of fuel down the inside of the rear fender and im worried that it may cause a problem if i continue to drive it like that...

how did you mes up the fuel neck?

 

If the fuel neck it messed up then you won't be able to buy a gas cap to fix it.
If the gas cap is bad yet.
Sounds like you need a new filler neck.

 

My filler neck eats gas caps. Every three or four months I have to replace my gas cap because it just won't screw in anymore. Try getting another one. I think they're only a couple of bucks.

 

well thank you to everyone that has posted but i figured out the problem and got it fixed. in answer to how did i mess up the neck well i put the tank back in the wrong way and it hit the frame instead of going thru the frame and cause the filler neck to go out of round but what i did was too a pair of channel locks and squeezed it back until i could get the cap to screw in all the way so yeah the problem is fixed no longer do i have a leak out of my fuel cap. car just needs a tune up now and it will run 100%
