89 Camaro Hatch

Were there any Camaros made with a rear window with no defroster? I'm currently building my 89 Camaro RS to race in the LSX Shootout all motor class and would like a rear window that is clean and clear (no defroster lines). Thank you for any information

Ben

There must have been, because I know of a couple of guys on here who don't have one and my stock hatch on my 87 Bird don't have it, either...

I have an '89 without defroster. It doesnt have any power features and is a v6. So, I would just go look at a junk yard at some camaros that are crank windows and no power hatch.

Thanks, I'll have to get out there and look. So your Camaro doesnt have that little pull down motor for the hatch? Thats cool I was wondering about that too.

Re: 89 Camaro Hatch

I had an 89 rs back in 1994 that didnt have a rear defroster or any power options. Just a base camaro. All 89 camaros had the power pull down hatch. I think 88camaroluvr was talking about the hatch release on the center console. If you want a hatch with no defrost, you could use a razor blade and scrap off the lines but there might be a shadow of where the lines were.

IIRC, no one makes a defroster hatch glass anymore, so if you can wait until a glass place is having their sale (Safelite usually has a 50-75% sale around holidays) you can pick up a brand new hatch glass with no lines. Cheaper to get it at a yard though.

Jermdm is correct. I meant that there are no buttons in the center console but the motor still works if you use the key in the slot by the rear license plate. I'm thinking about getting the motor set to a suffecient depth and just welding it solid. No more worries about the gear going bad.
