Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
Hey Everyone, My driver side door sags, I know a lot of people on these boards are saying buy an upper hinge kit, so I was looking around and found this on summit racing.
Dorman 703-266 - Door Hinge Pin and Bushings, GM, Kit
When you goto the application tab, and narrow it down, it says its for the front upper hinge, I was wondering if this really is what i need? if so $2.95 seems like a pretty awesome price.. or am I just getting a little too over excited?
can anyone verify this for me? wether or not I should go with this kit? i mean heck $3 bucks it might just be worth checking out huh?

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
well... this is what i found out on my car. The reason the door sags is because the little wheels on the hinge have failed and the bushing in the middle is out so it is not tight against the ... tab (for lack of better word) thus it saugs to make contact. I ordered this part as well and it was not right. I ended up doing nothing for now until I can find the little wheels for the hinge. I do not want to have to replace the whole hinge but will if need be when I get the car painted.
Look at your hinge and try to determine if it is the pin or the wheels that have failed.

That $3 piece is a replacement lower hinge pin. If your play is in the upper hinge then the best solution is the upper hinge kit sold by TDS, a sponsor here. I've used it with success on one of my cars.

I got a kit from total auto off ebay... 58 bux plus shipping. Upper and lower hinge kit... looks real nice too. let me know if you want more info on it... i just got it in the mail the other day and it looks awesome.
----------
and no, that $3.00 kit won't fix it. The upper hinge wears out and the holes enlarge slightly... the new kit comes with bushings for the upper hinge as well to take the slack.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
are you sure this is for the lower hinge? because when you goto summit racing and see what applications this is for, it specifically says front door upper hinge for 82-92 camaro.

Lower hinge. Look at your upper and lower hinges and you'll see the diff.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
it may be the upper. the upper also has a pin but it is not usually where the problem comes from.
anyhow, does anyone know of a UPPER hinge kit that includes the little rollers that does not require removing and rewelding a new hinge in? I ordered a kit from Classic Industries for like 70 bucks and it was everything except what I needed. I can photo what I have and need if that would help but I would like to fix all my door issues...
all on drivers door only: sags, rattles real bad, lock wont lock with power lock button...
passenger door is like new perfect...

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
Nah, the upper doesn't have a continuous pin running through both hinge points. The kit from TDS can be installed without removing the hinge.
Don't know what your referring to with the 'little rollers'? Talking about the detent rollers adjacent to the lower hinge?

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
maybe you are right about the pin going all the way on the top i can't clearly remember but the rollers are the the little wheels that are about 1" in diameter that roll through the grooves when you open/close door to hold it half open and all the way open. my upper wheel is worn out so now the door sags... if i had my car here i would photo it but i don't. let me see if i can find a pic...

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
ok not my door but this is the roller that i speak of. I know this is the bottom but there is one on the top too. mine is worn and makes the door sag... i need to replace the roller/bushing.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
That roller won't make the door sag, it's not actually holding the weight of the door. All it does is give you the "stops" where the door will stay open, instead of just swinging in the breeze.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
OK OK maybe that is a lower as well... whatever I am not near my car to go look. This is what I know... the wheel is worn out, on the top hinge, the pins and hinges themselves are fine. Maybe the door doesn't actually sag, it does sway in the breeze but now that I think of it, there isnt much, if any sag, just no ability to stay open on its own.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
Replace the detent pin and roller. Like $15 with shipping. Door doesn't even need to come loose. You can pop the spring out, replace the pin and roller then re-install the spring after tightening it down with some wire. Cut the wire loose after it's in and you're done.

lower detent pin and roller kit from Top Down Solutions (they're a board sponsor, although there may be other sources):
http://www.top-downsolutions.com/ind...5ff80be5537fac
They also sell the upper hinge kits, same ones AndyZ28 makes.

Re: Door Sag, Cheap Solution?
The $4 Autozone hinges are why my doors still sag....
A one door kit.......I can fix the lowers for $4 (both doors).....But it costs me another $92, to fix the uppers? What kinda profit margin is on those upper hinges?

Good luck getting the pin out with the door still on.... In fact, good luck getting the pin out period. It is a major PITA.
