I brought the car in for some work and when they put it on the lift i found something i probably didnt want to see... the mechanic pointed it out and said i should have it looked at.. anyway right by the sideskirt(under the car, under door area) there was some rot.. the guy was telling me i should look into getting it repaired and made a joke that the floor will fall out.. just wondering what kind of work is needed to fix.. is it simple or complicateed? how much am i looking at to repair...

 

depends on how much rot there is. about 60% of the floor was rusted in my car on the driver side and about 10% on the passenger side so i got a driver side floor pan (about $500) and just cut out the old one and welded in the whole new one and the passenger side was fixed with some sheet metal. me and a buddy did it so i saved alot on labour cost it probably took us about 40-50 hours and that also includes two new wheel wells cutting out old stuff painting the new stuff gutting the interior and putting it back in

 

i dont think the actually floor pan is rotted.. i think it was just the "brackets" if that is the right word... if i recall correctly there were bolts on what i think looked like an l bracket or something.. that was rotted.. just the outside part if that makes sense.. i wish i took pictures/ had the car in my possession to take some pictures..

 

was it by any chance right infront of the rear wheel?

 

this is sad lol but below is a pic i found of a model car on the internet.. i can't find any pictures of an actual 3rd gen underbody.. anyway i circled in red where i believe the rot is.. like i said it is all the way towards the outside part of the vehicle.. right under the side skirt but the rot is on the underbody..

 

lol well that should be a relatively easy fix depending on the extent of the rust but while your at it just take a screw driver and just start stabbing around the rest of the car theres always more rust then what it looks like. trust me

 

yeah man,pics would narrow down the findings from someone else that possibly has absolutely no idea what their talking about as well.
I so far have no idea what you're talking about.I know what gfx brackets are and I know what floorpans are everything in between lies in description/pics

 

i know.. i am sorry for the confusion.. i wish i had the car here to take some pics or at least snapped a quick one while i was at the shop... here is another picture of a camaro underbody.. not sure what year this pic is but the part that i circled looks like the part that is rotted on my car... how it comes down and everything..

 

ya thats a fairly easy fix....my car needs a total new floor on both sides and the rockers are rotted too. Its almost not worth fixing but i am going to do it this winter. you my friend have it easy compared to what im about to endure.

 

The part thats hanging down is the pinchweld that connects the rocker panel (below the door) and the floor pan (under the carpet). From your pics it looks like your talking about the rocker panel. There are also inner rockers and rocker reinforcements welded in. It's also the main strength in the center section of the car. It's not hard to weld in a rocker if you know what you're doing, but it's important it's done right. I live in an area of the country where rust isn't a big problem and until I started reading post's here I never knew how bad other parts of the country (or world) has it. Good luck.
