Custom Tails

Seen this on the local craigslist, Was just curious what everyone thought of them lights.

From the looks of it, them are not the standard fake corvette fiberglassed ones, One off?

Which bring me to my second question.... Has anyone ever thought of fiberglassing the tails like that, but instead of fake corvette tails, putting two '69 camaro lights in it.

blasphemy i know

Re: Custom Tails

That looks kind of "Rice-y". Our cars are very angular and have sharp edges. If you put anything rounded on them, it just looks out of place. Maybe the 69 taillights wouldnt look so bad, but the wiring issues wouldnt be a lot of fun to deal with. (It's not impossible, just a pain in the a##) I would like to see it...

God i wish i had the know how to make that...., I think it would look pretty mean if the entire old taillight section was painted black, with the lights floating there

Re: Custom Tails

You can make that. All you need is an old set of thirdgen taillights, a new set of 69 taillights, some kitty hair(fiberglass)resin, sandpaper, etc. I kind of like the look of that. I would paint it black, though...

Re: Custom Tails

reminds me of the old zr1 tail panel that used to be available.
that one appears to be done from trailer lights?

Re: Custom Tails

I actually made a light panel almost identical to that for my bird a little over a year ago but I never bought the lights for it. It was just a single piece of sheet metal. When I mocked it up on the car I ended up hating it. The original idea was to make one like that and cover it with a piece of smoked lexan. In the end I decided to mod a set of lenses that I had laying around instead.

Re: Custom Tails

In the pic above the tails look a little small for the car. but then again, if the whole piece was black, then maybe it would look alright.....I do like the idea though, either way it look really cool.

Re: Custom Tails

I love the look of the 69 lights. I have been trying to figure out how to do it to my camaro. Thanks for the photochop, it looks like it would turn out better than I had originally thought. I know where I can get a cheap set of thirdgen lights to cut up, finding the 69 lghts will be hard though. At least for a reasonable price.

Re: Custom Tails

I admit I'm not impressed with the round taillights. Looks too much like two stop lights turned sideways

Re: Custom Tails

Most likely the 69's would be a lil bigger than in the chop, The thing i like about the idea though, is how the ends of the lights actually have the same body lines as the old tails, slight curvature.

Imagine you've never seen a 3rd gen before, or they wasn't your choice of car and you wasn't familiar with them, If you pulled up behind one with '69 lights, You would think it was stock. (at least to me)

Re: Custom Tails

I like the idea of the 69 lights, but they look too small.

Maybe if they were essentially the same design, just taller & wider....Too much dead space around them, IMHO.

And Eddy....You beat me here! I'm thinking..."I've gotta show Eddy this thread...." and there is already a post in here from you....

Re: Custom Tails

What if you took the stock lights from an early 3rdgen? The ones that have just the single line dividing them in half horizontally? They are already halfway there, just tint the amber to red and blend the tops and bottoms into the body? I'll see if I can find a pic of the lights I'm talking about and photochop it. Kinda hard to explain.
