mine click once
I would think it had something to do with the headlight relay that is close to the wiper motor

I noticed on mine (do the same thing) that the headlight motor seems to be loose (the rod that connects to the light)

If it's on a 91, it has the rebuildable motors. Pull them, pop off the cover, and replace the four little pucks on the plastic gear using either a rebuild kit, pieces of glue stick, or pieces of metal pipe.
Also, your gear may be stripped, which will require replacement of it. The way the motors work, is when the headlight is fully open the control box for the motors sees high resistance in the circuit and kills power to it. If the gear is stripped, it will still turn for a few seconds even after the light is up, causing the clicking sound.

Re: headlights click after going up or down
thanks for the link! im gonna pull them apart and check it out sometime this week. i think the gears may be worn too. the headlights still operate, and stay up all the way, but when they move to the up or down position they just keep running. For the record, how does the motor know when to stop? is it on a time delay or is there a sensor of some sort? thanks again
Edit: nevermind that part i just re-read the post about high resistance! does that work both up and down though?
