Posible body kits for firebird

Do any of the ground effects from a 89 Camaro RS fit a 89 firebird formula?

I know the hood wont for sure...the side skirts dont either...
does the back bumper fit? with the rear quarter panel ground effects?

the side ground effects would physically swap after adding the mounting brackets to the formula. The front and rear bumper covers are shaped differently, so the front and rear ground effects from a camaro would not match the size and shape of the firebird front and rear bumper covers. your stock options for adding a complete matching set of ground effects to your 89 formula are as follows

- complete front and rear bumper cover swap from an 85-90 Trans Am along with matching side ground effects. (85-90 ground effects are molded into the bumper covers)

- complete front and rear bumper cover swap from an 91-92 Trans Am (or base model bird that came equiped with ground effects) along with matching side ground effects
(91-92 ground effects are also molded into the bumper covers)

- ground effects set from a 1984 aero package Trans Am. The 84 version of the ground effects were bolted on to the base model front and rear bumper covers, which are the same shape an the bottom edge as your 89 formula bumper covers.

The Camaro side skirts look nice on a bird. Redraif had them on her TA. But you have to either fill the decal spot or come up with something custom for the area.

The bottom of the camaro 91-92 side skirts curve in sligthly towards the front tire. The pre-91 camaro ones may be this way also. Firebird ones come almost straight down. This is rough sketch in paint but what I mean:

What do you mean by "decal spot"? where the RS sticker is??
Is it a direct fit?

Re: Posible body kits for firebird

i'm glad i could help! the decal spot on the 91-92 camaro ground effects is a reactangular indentation where a raised "RS" or "z28" logo is located. So for a firebird, you would want to remove the Camaro related logo and replace it with a Firebird related one or fill it in so there's no indentation. I'd highly recommend going with one of the firebird options for ground effects though. the camaro side pieces go a little bit higher than the '84 T/A ground effects do, they are a good bit lower than the 85-90 T/A ground effects, and they don't go with the 91-92 style firebird ground effects at all. Keep it all matching!

The firebird formula and the Camaro are both from 89
the side skirts on the camaro do have the "RS" decal on them...but I could just take it out and put a firebird thingy on it (sticker/emblem/etc.)

Is it a direct fit though? You mentioned it looked good so I assume it is...

I am trying to make my formula look like a trans am (mostly the front bumper) i just personally like it better...and The camaro RS side skirts are in great shape (I have not had any luck fin ding any good Firebird ones) and they are the exact same color...so I will save $$$ for NO paint job

Would the rear RS bumper work on the firebird? direct fit or not? It has the rear quarter/back bumper extensions...I already got a trans am hood and front bumper ready to put in...the only thing I would need is the trans am front bumper extension ground effects... then It would really be a FORMULA car 3 third gens in 1 lol
Hopefully it will look good and be cheap

If you do get it on there...where do you plan on putting a license plate?

Sometimes look good and cheap don't always go together

The plate would just go on the camaro RS bumper...as if it was a firebird bumper
Thats why I am asking...to make sure it goes together or it would work...I dont care if it's "Supposed" to go together as long as it can be put together and look good

But the Camaro bumper does not have a place to mount one...as if it were a Firebird bumper

The camaro rear bumper cover wouldn't mount to your firebird. The rear of the firebird is actually a little wider and the body lines wouldn't match up. The reason for jimmyj2000's question about the license plate is because the Camaro had the plate mount between the taillights, so there is no spot on the Camaro bumper cover for it.

As for the camaro side ground effects with T/A front and rear ground effects... I wasn't the one that said it would look good! I think the only way to go is a fully matching firebird set from whatever year you choose. The Camaro ones will physically bolt on to a firebird, but aestetically I don't care for it because of the mis-matched heights.

I think you can answer a lot of your own questions and figure out what you really want by looking at pictures of different year camaros and firebirds and seeing the differences for yourself.

cool, let us know what you come back with. The ground effects can be a pain to remove from the sides, you'll want a drill and possibly a cut-off tool because you'll need those rocker mounting brackets too.
