Door clipping body of car.

Hey guys, my car door has been making a rattling sound when it's closed for a few weeks(maybe longer, but that's when i noticed), and then Thursday, I got to pick it up from the oil place, and the door only wants to open about 9 inches or so. If I open it any more the door clips against the body of the car and it's starting to chip the paint off the body and door. I'll post a video if I need to, but has anyone else had this issue? Thanks for any help provided.

Re: Door clipping body of car.

hinge. that sound you hear, sort of like a card snapping back and forth is the metal flexing and getting weak. you did not say if it was the top or bottom that was touching. nor did you say if it was the front or back of the door.
need more information.
its like going into a dr office and saying - doctor i dont feel good and its getting worse, what is wrong with me? - think that is enough info to get him to fix you?
same with your problem.

Re: Door clipping body of car.

It's on the front of the driver's side door, directly on the middle. The sound it makes is a popping sound as the door clips against the body of the car. Other than that, it makes a rattling sound when it's closed. If I pull on the door when it's open, it doesn't shake around like my 92 does(this car is an 88).

Re: Door clipping body of car.

I think I may be starting to put together a reason why. The edge of the door should be flush with the fender, but on the drivers side my door is raised past the fender. If I push it in, I don't have the issue. My hood is also a little bowed over in that area, so I'm guessing it was wrecked at some point.

Re: Door clipping body of car.

Did the oil change place put your car up on a hoist. If so check underneath where the arms of the hoist would lift from, to see if they damaged the rear bottom of your fender. Post a vid ... or a pic, and let us know what you find.
