'84 Trans Am Rear Glass Body Mount
Hello,
Recently, someone was using my 1984 Trans Am trunk and leaned on the rear hatch glass to get something out. The metal pin in the mount above the back seat broke and the hatch was sideways. We managed to get it shut to drive home. Does anyone know where I can get a new pin? or mount assembly? Should I change both sides while I'm at it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: '84 Trans Am Rear Glass Body Mount
I guess no one knows where to get this part. Well does anyone have an (or many) old bird/trans am they are using for parts and wants to sell this part to me.
I've included a picture of my car and put a red circle around the hing that I need. Honestly, I don't even know if it's completely welded in, or there's bolts to remove it. I certainly hope there's bolts so I don't have to touch the glass.
ANY help is appreciated!

Well I never had one come apart like that before, maybe some one has and will chime in. I have only changed the complete rear hatch before and there is just the 4 bolts that are on the hinges. (After the headliner and stuff is out) What I would like to know is what is the fastener under the black caps? If you can unbolt those and change the hinge that would be a nice repair. I do have a couple of hatches that I have no plans for if it can be changed that way. I do not want to wreck a hatch to find out. (they must come out because they are not made in one piece I would think) From one Pontiac owner to another.(soon to be orphans I guess)

Do you mean that the stud from the hinge snapped? There are two on each side, so i don't see why it would immediately kick the hatch sideways. Do you mean the pin on which the hinge pivots so basically your hinge snapped in half??? I have two extra hinges around. They are easy to change out, just awkward to do because of the weight of the hatch. Can you post a picture of the damaged area so I understand it better?

Yes JeremyNYR. I think the stud in the hinge snapped. I didn't know quite how to word it. Also, I finally got pictures. Sorry it took so long to get them. I have a picture showing what is should look like, then one showing how it is. I guess hinges is what I need. Should I change both of them? I think Jeremy said he had them first. Or, do they come brand new from someone? Thanks again guys.
PS. it is strange having 3 other anchor points, but yes, it kicks sideways and is hard to close. It takes at least 2 people.

i have never looked at it, but you might be able to just push a new pin threw them, that was be a super easy fix, but idk if you can.
does it look like what was in there broke? if not the pin thingy that goes threw them might just be sitting down by the weather stripping???

that's the pin that broke... totally makes sense that your hatch is crooked with that. The gas strut is having its way with your hatch now and will try to break the other hinge pin too until it's replaced. I can send out a replacement used hinge to you for $5+ shipping. I can talk you through what you have to do to replace it too if you want. Please pm me with your address and I'll get a total price.
