Re: Paint Strippers

if it was straight lacquer, you could use lac thinner and just work fast over the bondo areas...and more than likely be alright unless your bondo application is shoddy.

No chemical paint stripper is weak enough to not effect Bondo

Bondo is not to be used to FILL baseball sized dents. Personally, if I cant get a magnet to stick to the metalwork though the bondo, I dig it out and keep reworking the metal till I get it closer to 'right'

Dont use that glazing putty stuff thats to fill pinholes (icing) UNLESS it has a hardener you have to add (like bondo) the stuff without hardener is just the sludge from producing lacquers (like duplicolor). It'll shrink and fall out eventually

Re: Paint Strippers

like the other guys said.....any chemical paint stripper wil also soften and eat bondo. If the paint is really soft and just pluggs up the sandpaper too much, try some NAPA brand water rinseable paint stripper....used a bunch of it this week on a rear bumper cover.....really cooks the paint off..........

Re: Paint Strippers

good tip, work fast on the plastics though as the stripper can leach out the petroleum distilates and cause your plastic to become brittle. It also might be sold as 'water soluable' or 'water borne' neither of which are water BASED or particularly friendly to you and yours...so be careful, even gentle solvents are still solvents

Re: Paint Strippers

Or use a urethane paint stripper?... Does not cost that much and will save you a headache.
