Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

Never seen it before, and don't really like it, it just looks like an expensive body kit.
But, I love the idea of a STB like that. I'm going to save that pic...
Could you post a link to where you found this car, or give us more info?

As far as kits go (by the pics) the fit looks pretty good.

That car looks good. Someone took alot of time and effort to make it look like that. Hell I'd drive it! I also like the fact that they used the IROC louvers on the rear lid.

Didn't even notice the louvers. It looks like whoever makes it,thought the kit out pretty well.I've seen some pretty bad fitting kits in my day.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

That is the cleanest Ferrari body kit conversion I've ever seen. From the outside (except for the IROC louvers) you'd never suspect it wasn't real (until the engine was started).

I'd drive it.

This should get you to the car and there are a few more pics.

I like the idea of totally changing a cars looks but I dont think Id want to make it look like another car. I give the gut mad props. It must of took alot of work, I also like the louvers on the rear. Keeps some of the Iroc in it without it looking like it doesnt belong.

A++

I am impressed to be honest, seems like they got lazy around the headlights but did well otherwise.

Looks to me like they used trans am front fenders but could be wrong. The job looks done well but not for me.

As far as kit cars go this one pretty bad, that is it wouldn't fool a Ferrari enthusiast more a second. However i do have to give the builder a world of credit as it looks like a lot of hard work. I would drive it !

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

that does have firebird fenders, hood and latch support. That also means the headlights had to be mounted lower than the original camaro ones. There is TONS of great fabrication and creativity in that car! I like it a lot!

Nope....Look at the pic with the hood open. The fenders extend WAY too far forward to be Firebird fenders & I see no seam in any pic suggesting that they are simply an extended nose.

I think those are custom fenders & hood, since there are no flip up headlight doors left, nor do I see a seam when the hood is closed. And no, I seriously doubt they were just molded to the hood. That would be extremely difficult, since they aren't metal & couldn't just be welded in place a Firebird hood.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

Yeah its hard to say. Someone could have easily welded in extensions to Firebird fenders. To me The Firebirds have a more rounded look and right above the front wheels and back it looks more loike a Firebird. So hard to tell.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

The side marker are in the wrong spot for them to be firebird fenders. Might be firebird fender flares welded in, hard to tell what they did. Never saw a strut tower brace like that before.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

Thats one of the best looking kits Ive ever seen. They really spent alot of time doing it right--even the interior would fool an untrained eye. I would ride around in that ALL day long and Ill bet you very few people would realize its not a real ferrari.

Probably what is making it look like the fenders are extended (aside from camera angle) is the fact the side markers have been moved back, closer to the wheel opening.
Pretty simple task, I would imagine ,if you have the skill to do what was done to the rest of the car to transform it.
As far as the headlight cutouts, making some sheetmetal fillers to weld in would be a a trivial task. IIRC, Redraif did the same to her car since she deleted the pop-ups on her 'bird.
If you look close towards the hood hinges (pic in link above), you can see where the stock bracing has been cut and removed from the hood leaving a fairly clean underside. I can only wonder if that would be n issue at speed though...
The reworked/covered stock console and air cleaner are pretty trick. Along with what appears to be a rotating license plate (pic in the link above)

Overall, the kit car isn't any longer than a stock f-body and is very nicely crafted..... except maybe the engine bay itself...

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

I would go back and make my case about them being firebird parts that were significantly modified, but Deadbird did it for me with excellent pictures for comparison :-) Notice in the pictures that the wheel well shape on the kit car is identical to that of the firebird fenders. For the filler panels over the pop-up headlights... i nearly did the same myself but ended up abandoning that project in favor of getting my car on the road to actually drive again sooner. I was going to weld in corners of a stock camaro hood that seemed to match the contour well enough for such a small section.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

your all wrong but thts ok. im the builders son . all the parts you see on this car is all hand fabricated its all metal no kit everything is hand made . those are camaro fenders extended with real (medal) and yes the marker lights were moved back. we sold this last year . took us 2 to 3 years to build and everything came out amazing . thanks for all the compliments .

I, personally, would be extremely interested in seeing some pictures of the build process. As I'm sure the rest of the people here would like to see as well.

Re: 86 camaro (Ferrari)

gon8go, you have to respect the craftsmanship and work that went into that car. If you saw it at a show in person and the owner was right there, would you go up to him and say the same thing you typed here? It's pretty disrespectful considering how much amazing work he put into the car.

And YES I want to see build pictures! Guy77, it's hard to believe those aren't modified firebird fenders considering the similarities in the wheel well shape and the top profile that were shown in comparison pictures by deadbird.
