need some help.

I took my car to get fixed 2 week ago and they dented my brand new paint job . They said they will fix it or I can take it somewhere to get it done and they will pay for it. I want the place that painted my car to do it sense it is custom paint. Its a little door nick like if someone is to open there door and hits your car. I dont have a pic of the dent but Ill show you where it is and its reallly small but deep. They said its around $700 to do. Is that high?

Re: need some help.

Good body work isn't cheap but that price does sound a little on the high side if it amounts to nothing more than a door ding.

We typically figure $400 per panel just as a very rough paint estimate But thats not for custom paint.

I had a repair shop scratch my hood when working on the car. They offered me a couple hundred to fix it, I took it to a reputable body shop instead. It cost the repair shop $600 to fix the hood - the whole panel needs clear coat for a small scratch.

that sounds about right, depending what they are going to do. if the blend the clear in it will be cheaper, yet by blending the clear it has a higher chance of being noticable. base coat is very easy to blend in, yet clear is not. clear is where you get all of your sheen from, so if it is broken up you will see where the repair was done, by reclearing the whole panel, you dont get the different lines in the panel and it is not seen. if the whole panel is getting recleared, times 2 panels and a cut and buff, ya i could see it being around that much. one material isnt cheap, and two labor rates say at 60 an hour, by time spent preping, cleaning, masking off, sanding and filling, actual spraying of the car, cut and buff time, even if it took them 5 hours to do thats 300 just in labor. paint isnt cheap.

Re: need some help.

sounds about right, what is custom about the job? do you have a pearl coat overtop of the white? unless they remember how much pearl etc they used, they may have a difficult time matching, but if they did the job the first time, shouldnt have much of a problem. honestly, my opinion would be, if the shop that damaged it is offering to pay to fix the damages done, what does it matter how much it costs, get it done right.

As a guy that grew up in a body shop I agree too. It's a small ding but the shop needs to fix a large area. The cost of paint and materials is through the roof.Believe me the body men aren't getting rich.

Re: need some help.

Hey, is it a small dent where the paint isn't damaged or an actual dent where the paint is chipped.

I have a few friends with show cars that did that paintless dent removal service, where a guy came out and worked the dent out from inside the car. It worked really well.

Just a thought.
