I'm new to this site and from what i can see its a good one. I've been looking into getting a 89 RS from a friend for a project vehicle. Under the car is pretty rusty. The body isn't terrible but it has work to be done. There is a rust bubble starting on both the driver side and passenger side pillars. Also the inner fender on both sides is almost gone. How much would you pay for the car? It's got 130,00 on it, tranny went out, and needs a head gasket. Interior is in pretty rough shape. It will be a big project but I'm going to school for auto body and need a project vehicle anyways. Thanks!

Re: New Guy
i would say stay away from it with the rust you mentioned . you can still find many 3rd gens. rust free . just my thoughts , good luck .
Re: New Guy
Welcome to the site. I'd probably stay away from that one.Look under the car's that your thinking about buying these cars tend to rot in the floors and in the cargo area as well.
Sounds like the owner neglected that one pretty good.

Re: New Guy
The most I ever paid was $900, and that was for a running no problems 1992 RS with almost mint interior, no rust to speak of, and a small dent in the pass rear quarter panel. Needless to say, 4 years later I've sunk well over $7k in it, and in my mind, it's still a project.
I wouldn't bother with a rust bucket. I also wouldn't bother if you don't have the time, patience, and money for an addiction! Because that's what it is! Only difference - there's no 12 step program out there!

Re: New Guy

I was just talking with a friend of mine the other day about how my car will never be done. Never. Sigh. But that's good in a way, since I enjoy playing with my car so much.

Re: New Guy
I would buy it for $150, or less, & strip it for all the good parts you might need down the road. I have done just that. Can't count how many times I would have had to shell out money, but thanks for a car that I made money on, by just selling the 700r4, I have a lot of it right here.

Re: New Guy
X2 on what Striker said. I wouldn't mind buying a rusty project if it has a great engine and trans but that car does not have much going for it. Its amazing though how much can be made on parts. If you could get it 200 or less, I would buy it as a parts car, strip everything and I mean everything. Then if you can trailer the parts to the jy, They might give a couple of bucks for your scrap as long as you have a title.
Just my 2 cents.
