T-Top repair question
I have a set of lexan t-tops and on one of them the plastic frame that the latch assembly and weatherstripping attaches too is coming loose from the glass on one end. Im not sure what kind of adhesive to put on there, would have to be something really strong since thats pretty much the only thing holding the glass to the car. Anyone know what I should use to reattach this? and what would be the best way to go about it ? Thanks.

The best option is to try and locate some glass tops. You can swap the mounting hardware from lexan to glass or just install the body mounts that match up with the new tops. Easy swap.

Check the classifieds for the glass tops or ebay. You can also probably locate the correct mountings from the classifieds or a junk yard. They don't usually get broken, so locating them shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks for the reply. I dont want to replace my entire tops, mine are in perfect mint condition like the day I bought it (other than the weatherstripping). Only problem I have is the latch assembly is coming loose from the glass on one end. I just need to know what kind of glue that is holding the parts to the glass so I can reglue mine down. Its some kind of black glue, but I want to be sure what kind so it will be strong enough for the glass not to blow off on the highway.

Speculating here, but maybe it is or is similar to windshield adhesive...? That would be my guess anyway.

Thanks! It probably is windshield adhesive now that you mention it. For some reason I was thinking windshield adhesive was that stuff that stays sticky, but I had it confused with weatherstrip adhesive, the windshield stuff does indeed dry to a solid rubber and looks just like this stuff. Im gonna give it a shot.

Wait, you're definitely sure that the stuff you got dries to a solid-ish state and does not remain sticky? Just want to make sure that I didn't mess things up for you, because now that I think about it, there are some kinds of "Windshield Adhesives" that do remain sticky...

yes there are.
there is a special glass epoxy, but i have always had the best results w/ just regular 2 part epoxy. If you scuff the glass surface properly it holds well. I have to use it on all my winter cars to hold the power windows into the regulators. They freeze to the window seals and the regulator pops off the bottom. All my winter cars have done this, but never after the epoxy. The special "glass epoxy" did fail.
