Black side trim strip 86 T/A

I am trying to find new trim for the side of my T/A but haven't had any luck. I have already ran a board search and didn't come up with anything. Anyone know where I can get this stuff? Mine is broken and coming off from being so old. Also what would be a good adhesive to put it on?

I don't believe side moulding for our cars are being reproduced yet. Your best bet would be to find a similar junk yard car that has its mouldings and use that.

Try classic industries. I believe i saw trim pieces in their catalog.

Peel it off, get the residue off with some Goof Off or something, then lightly wet-sand and hand buff it. Those side mouldings are hideous. Your car will look much better without it.

Sounds like a good idea but I think when it was last painted they did it while taping everything off. What is underneath that trim is a little off from the rest of the car. I want to eventually repaint the car but until I can afford that, I just want to put new trim on it.

Ah. Didn't realize it had been painted before.

Yeah, the junk yard would be your best bet. Sorry.

It might be worth while to give Hawk's Third Gen Parts a call and just ask if they know of anyone who is reproducing those. Or they might have a car laying around with some side mouldings on it.

There is an '86 T/A in a JY here in great condition. I can check and see if it has the mouldings on it for you ...

Yeah I will call Hawks and see what they say. As far as looking in the junk yards, I will look around here first. If I have trouble finding something then I might ask for help. I appreciate the offer.

As long as your paint hasn't faded, get side moldings from a 93-97 Firebird. I'm sure you could find some used one on LS1tech.com's classifieds. Look much better and look like stock because 4th gen doors and 3rd Gen doors are the exact same length. Remove the adhesive from them and use new 3m/Scotch trim adhesive. Its black double-sided adhesive tape. Just a suggestion.

Any autobody supply store can get you a roll of aftermarket moulding. It comes in a dozen different shapes and colors and it isn't very expensive.

I think I am going to go ahead and take it off and try buffing it out. Then see how it looks. If it isn't good then I will look at all my options to cover it up.
