hi there, i just bought my daughter her first car its a 86 T/A in very good shape,no rust any were! very cool being from mi.. any way, the rear spoiler is junk, and i need to find a replacement. should it be painted to match the car? this one was, and im not sure that is right? does any one know of a good replacement that mounts like factory? thanks for your site.

 

My '86 spoiler was black from the factory and well rusted.

Those rubber spoilers are crap!Try Hawks,they sell a fiberglass version of the spoiler.

 

idk I would like to say the rubber ones are not super bad, yes they do break down, and for some reason like to get cuts in them? but I used a resin jelly that is not super expensive, it mixes like bondo and the best part is that it is as flexible as the rubber spoilers are so it seemed to work prety good for me, when I am not in school I will right down the name if you are intrested in knowing?

 

For 86 they were black. Later years (maybe just for TAs & GTAs?) they got painted body color.

You have VERY little chance of finding a new urethane (OEM) one uncracked, without paying way too much for it. Besides they are HEAVY. The fiberglass ones will shed quite a bit of weight (compared).

Find you a fiberglass version, like from Hawk's, and paint it black if she wants "original" or body color. I liked mine body color.

Or just take it off altogether & run wingless, but them she'll have a couple of holes in the decklid & the uneeded/clips along the glass.

You could put a 93-97 (98-02 are not a good fit) rear wing in. Different holes for mounting it (simple drilling of 4 new holes & filling the old ones) & needing to extend the center 2 posts. The 3rd brake light is a direct plug in though.

And they are WAY cheaper, easily under $100, from a junkyard or from an indivual parting out a car.

 

hi stephen, i noticed you have a set of gta rims for sale. what are the size? are you interested in trades? my daughters 86 door tag says it came with 16in rims? what would you think they should look like? i have a 15in black and polished directional right now. i am kinda confused, because i have pics of the car when it was very new,and these were the rims on it..thanks

 

I only have the rear 2 gold crosslaces. The fronts are already sold. They are 16" x 8". They'll fit directly on the rear, or on the front with the OEM 4mm slip on spacers.

It might have come off the assembly line with the 16" Formula-style wheels. Do you have a list of the RPO codes? That would be the best way to determine the "correct" wheels for that car.

 

stephen, do you have a way to decode the tag. i have a three ring binder full paper work for this car from day one. if it came with 16s i would like to put them back on. they look much better!! i also found a spoiler on ebay, for 200 it is abs plastic not fiberglass. does any one have any thoughts of this design? thanks

 

TGO has a RPO decoder, but I can't remember the last time it even worked. Guess the Owners and/or Admins haven't tried to ever fix it.....
