No! cant believe this.

ok, i live in a very old farm house, and i have alot of older barns that most of them have been well mantained. i had my car inside one of these barns. that barn has an open side. the long side was made without a wall and it had 3 bays that were more than big enough for a large car, so i had my bird and our 18 foot glastron boat in the barn and a 10,000 pound farm hoist. but all western nyers know the very heavy wet snow. i was alone at home about to go to work and i heard a lot of noise. i look outside and the boat and my car was the only thing hoding up what was left of the barn. oh no. go out side and my pass. side ttop is smashed and theres a barn roof on my hood. im praying its not bad under the barn roof. and i think i may have messed something on my suspension up because the front end is bottomed out. and i was about to get insurance on this car. I thank god that my hatch isnt smashed. im going to do damage control tomorrow and ill upload pics. so if any one is selling a glass t-top pass. side near batavia ny. contact me

Re: No! cant believe this.

FWIW, I had a car that someone stole the wheels off of and my homeowners covered it.....and my car was in the (glorified barn) carport when it happened....Theaten to switch companies or something if its bad ......My Pops had 3 motorbikes that were destroyed in a garage fire when I was a kid and homeowners covered that too.....

Re: No! cant believe this.

AAAHHH stuff!!!
I thought owners ins. covered ALL owners property incase something happened!!
Sorry... I feel the agony...
In 2000, a huge Elm tree split in 1/2, fell on the porch, house, & '74 Camaro!! I was fortunate--
the broken piece rolled across the roof, and the larger branches supported weight off the roof!
The Camaro was right smack in the middle of what looked like hundreds of pounds of wood. When we got it cleaned up, the main branch was curved just in a way that it arched over the Camaro!! Just a few superficial scratches!!
Renters Ins. sais same thing--covers belongings only INSIDE the house!!

PS
My Bride said the same thing--
So when the 3rd gen is in storage, we have storage ins. incase something were to happen.
Best Hopes going to ya!!

Where are you at? I know of a couple of yards that MAY have one. If not, there's always www.car-part.com, but I know of a couple yards that don't have anything online . And be glad the roof didn't smash the hatch.

Let me know. The one yard I'm not too sure about still having the tops off of the 91 V6 that's there. Actually, that $70 was a good price. Back when BOTH of mine were smashed (long story that's rather embarassing) I paid $200 for the replacements at PJ's in Caledonia. They leak, though, not that the factory ones didn't, but they're a slightly newer style, from a 91. If yours still has the locks, you WILL need to strip it down to the glass and drill out 2 rivets on the latch mechanism to swap the locks over. It's a pain, but I've done it.

:edit: Car-Part shows one in Webster, but for more than that CL guy is asking for. Most of them are the other side of the state.

Re: No! cant believe this.

yeah it wasnt bad but the guy sounded like he had a bunch of things to sell like he had somewhat of a business. so he could always be a back up. im going to calling local pick and pulls. like dumpletons, darien auto parts, pjs. some other ones if i think about it. now how common are those plastic ones because i heard not so well things about them

plastic t-tops? not as common as glass, and they are really light, which is the plus. However they yellow over time and most out there are beat.

Thats right man! I can't believe there was such little damage for how bad it could have really been, that could have been the end of the car right there, but the bird wants to live!

You can get the yellow off. You need to get some autosol, take a cottome rag and start rubbing. It wont hurt the surface if you do it by hand and a little goes a long way. http://www.eastwood.com/autosol-metal-polish.html. I've used it on headlights and taillights.

Re: No! cant believe this.

look at the glass 1/2 full. In Canada there is a demand for the barn board. perhaps you able to sell the broken barn they dismantle the structure for you and give you money for the material. then you can invest all the money into your ride

Sorry to hear about your poor 'Bird, and I don't mean to put a sour note on your whole experience, as you have already been through enough, but here in Canada...

We are best suited to buy storage insurance as our house policies won't cover this kind of thing.
Hope you get your ride back up and running soon without too much pain

Depending on the condition, that sounds fair. If they are flawless then he might be expecting more around $250. I would say 70-80 bucks per top is a good price for used tops and I wouldn't give more than 50 for the bag. If I had to give a price I'd say $150-200

Re: No! cant believe this.

You're going to have a lot of fun getting those tops to work (which is why I recommend getting some from an earlier model year car). When I had to replace mine, also from a 91, I had to make some major adjustments to the body pin retainers to get the weatherstripping to meet. And they still leaked. Also, if you have locks and you want to put your lock in the new top, you WILL destroy the weatherstripping getting to the screws to get everything apart, and your old weatherstripping will need to have a couple of holes drilled into the plastic structure of the top to get the old weatherstrip to retain the way it's supposed to.

Re: No! cant believe this.

ok, finally picked my new t-tops today. 140 for both with the leather case. the tops are in amazing condition. And they fit awsome. for some reason they seem a bit longer so it covers more of the weather stripping and fits like perfectly flush with the roof. And on top of that, they have the plastic drip rails that are in good condition

I am glad that the t-tops worked out for you, and I thought it was funny that your interior was in better shape after the barn fell on it than mine was when I just bought my car.

LOL. yeah, the guy i bought it from didnt touch it in the past 8 years and he kept it in his fathers heated garage. (right next to a mid 90s caravan which i tried to buy for a next demo car, he wanted more for the caravan than the 'bird) He claimed that he bought it like a year old from the dealership he worked at as a mechanic. he had major OCD. The interior was dirty but not beat up and i loved the red. All it needs is a tune up, carburator tuned and new tires. O and a new drivers floor board. and the body doesnt have any rust and didnt have any dent until i got to it

Well when I bought the car it looked like it had been sitting outside for a few years ... and that one window had been left down for a long period of time. Its a work in progress but its getting much closer to being done. Hopefully within a year or so.
