so i just crashed my camaro

i came around a corner at about 9:00 tonight and accelerated hard and the pedal stuck. there was some gravel on the road and the car started to slide i got kinda scared because the pedal stuck and i over corrected and the car started to slide in the opposite direction. i seen the trees coming and my head thought hit the brakes but for some reason my foot diddnt slide over and it pushed the gas again i let right off but it was too late all i remember after that was hearing the window shatter and then i remember being out of the car watching two people drive by. then i realised the car was still running so i went and shut it off then called my parents and the cops i got a few pics with my phone that i will put up but i will get some better ones tomarrow when i go look at it at the shop it got towed too. but i think its totaled it hit on the pass side door and it was so pushed together i could barely open the center console to get my insurence and reg out of it. but i guess it could have been much worse atleast i diddnt get hurt at all my back is just a bit sore.

I feel for ya man, cuz I have been down that road before. Be thankful that you are ok and remember that a car can always be resurrected in one way or another. Good luck.

thanks guys and Justin89Formy the funny thing about that is is the cop told me i shouldent be driving this kind of car and that i should buy a toyota! hahaha but on a more serious note either my pedal did stick or i have been having this issue where it will rev its self up for some reason and it will hold at that higher rev it normally diddnt do it unless i was letting it sit and warm up (i diddnt let it warm up before i left and i thing that may be why it happened)

Thats weird. Is your car carbeurated? Because I had a similar problem in my 86 Z28 4 barrel. When the car was cold, the throttle, not the pedal, would get stuck at full. It freaked me out but I just threw it in neutral as soon as it kicked on high, popped the hood and un-stuck it. It only did it when it was first started up, and this problem only lasted about 2 months! Strange huh?

Anyways, glad youre ok. Sorry bout your car. It sux what happened tho. Hopefully its not totalled or there goes one more thirdgen. My 86 was totalled by some idiot in a honda who smashed it from behind while it was parked!!!!

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

no its tbi and when i bought the car i found out it had acctually been hit in the exact same spot and it was all pulled back out and repaired but i dont think its fixable this time the only thing that stoped it from going further was my subframe brace. the passanger seat was pushed in so tight i could barely open the center console to get my insurence and registration out

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

well i talked to the insurence company today and the good news is my insurence is only going to go up maby 400 dollars a year but the bad thing is i only had liability on it so im not getting any money for repairs and they arent covering my tow so i have to pay about 250.00 in total tow fees. but the good news is i may have found another car through my boces teacher apparently one of his friends has a 91-92 firebird formula that only needs a transmission the down side is its not a camaro lol and it has been sitting in a feild for a couple years but he only wants like 250 bucks for it but i feel for that amount of money for a thirdgen i cant go wrong.

also would it be possible to put my camaro front end onto the firebird? i know most parts on these cars are interchangeable if so what kind of work would be involved?
and pics would also be appreciated haha

$250 for a formula isnt bad. trannys should be between $1200 and $3000 depending on what you want. It may need a new gas tank though! good luck!

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

You can change it over, but you need to put the entire front clip on from the camaro. Also there will be wiring issues since you are going from a two headlight system to a four. Good luck!

Good that you didn't have a passenger in the car, or the population would be down by 1.

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

Id say get the bird and drop the tranny from the maro in it. Should bolt right up. Also if you wanted to you can swap the front end from a maro onto the bird. I did it to my firebird but only because I wrecked the front end and needed to replace it and its all I had around at the time.

Wow thats crappy. Hate to see another one go like that but that looks pretty tweeked.

If you ever gave any thought to parting it out , I would be interested in those black arm rests .

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

It always hurts to see wrecks like this...I never like to see another third gen die. But the important thing is that you're alright and no one else was hurt, either. Sounds like you've got another third gen soon to replace it. Good luck with that! If you're sentimental about the totaled car, though and your parents don't mind storing some parts, perhaps salvage what you can from the totaled car and save it for restoring another Camaro down the road. That, or sell the parts.

OMG...this makes me grateful about my own split-second decision in my wreck last year, though. I had a momentary lapse of judgment when I watched a light change from green to yellow instead of the truck stopped not far in front of me. For a split second I considered putting my passenger side into a light pole and avoiding the truck for fear of hurting someone else and getting sued...looking at the pics of your damage, thank God I didn't choose the pole or I would have lost my car and possibly been seriously injured.

No injuries to anyone. The truck only had a little scratch on the tow hitch and a scuff on the bumper afterward. Turns out the truck was jacked up some, at JUST the right height so that it dead-centered the big steel part across the front of my car instead of going through my radiator. My car was technically totaled. The bumper/hood were destroyed, but everything under the hood survived and I drove away from it. It was totally restored and repainted about a month ago...I really should get some new photos up.

Anyway, good luck with the next third gen!

well i found out the firebird i was looking into sold a couple days ago sadly. and seeing how this car was my daily driver my mom is fighting with me about trying to get another chassis so im not sure if it is going to happen untill i return from my tech school next summer. i really dont want to part with the car it really has quite a bit of sentamental value to me and plus it has all brand new interior in it. the car also only has about 75000 miles on it and most of them around here in my price range have alot of miles on them. i think the car is going to end up getting stored untill i return and then i will find a roller and put my engine and interior ect. into it. unless i can find a cheap car or roller before i leave in june

i am also glad you came out ok,

sucks to hear the firebird sold

the Camaro front on a firebird has been done on here, the best one is the TransMaro/Cam-Am i think they called it, it looked really good in the end seeing as i love the back of the Firebird but i dont care for the front(unless its the older Flat nose GTA style)

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

well, I've only had one real collision in my camaro, but i wasn't in it at the time, some lady hit me and she was freaking out when i got there, i had some scratched paint, and she had a dented front end, yeah they are tanks. it happened in a parking lot and she insisted i take 20$ from her. I'm glad your ok, I would be pretty upset if it was my car, i love it to death. I spun out one time and didn't even wanna get out because i was worried what it would look like.I sat in the car for like 15 minutes just parked before i even got out. I would say if the motor isn't damaged, look on craigslist, find a cheap f-body around your year with a blown engine or "needs work" and just drop your original engine in it. same car, different clothes. as far as firebird/camaro, they are both awsome cars, that's why they are both in this thirdgen site.if i didn't have a camaro i would want a firebird. simple. 2 in 1? its the best of both worlds. Good luck, I'm glad you appreciate a great car

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

Like I said I did it to my car. I honestly like it better than the firebird front. I was never been fond of the firebird front end. I think the maro looks a lot better yet I like the firebird taillights.

Heres a couple pics of mines. I need to repaint the passenger door and hood. messed up a few spots.

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

There is a black 80s TA for sale sitting in a field near the road just off rt. 81 Mexico NY exit on rt. 104. Take the Mexico exit #34? rt 104 head west toward Mexico and
it is sitting just past rt. 11 & 104 intersection traffic light before you get to the village of
Mexico. Its on the south side of rt. 104..................

Will be heading that way tomorrow and will stop and get further details/phone #
for ya. Its been there for better than a month so it may be a jewel or it may be
junk! Won't know till I eyeball it up close..................

Re: so i just crashed my camaro

You are in NY so don't forget to look for rust. A couple of "field" cars were mentioned...been there done that and won't again. Get as much of a together car as you can locate/afford. Don't let your need over ride you good sense. If it is a roller the price is likely open for some discussion, most of them are casts off needing work if not cash. Remove all you can from yours before calling the hook to remove it. What you don't use can probably find a home with one of us thirgden lovers.

also would it be possible to put my camaro front end onto the firebird? i know most parts on these cars are interchangeable if so what kind of work would be involved?
and pics would also be appreciated haha
If your insurance is not paying any claim (damage to your car, or someone elses) how can your insurance rate go up??

It goes up because liability pays for damages you cause to someone elses car, also insurance companies love to screw people over if your state requires you have insurance

Right he hit a tree i believe, so the insurace sees that as Making him a "higher risk" driver and raises rates, and if hes under 25 it really doesnt help.

Either way insurances companies will raise rates ober anything, its all

I'm not all that convinced. The insurance company should only be able to increase the rate if he was issued a citation, or if they paid out a claim. Most states use a point grading system, and the threshold is > $500 damage.

I also don't know why a kid who only has liability would even call his insurance company if he hit something.

i guess because the cops were involved, whenever they write a report for an accident it gets sent to your insurance

Hrmm.. In mass (work) an accident report is not required unless property damage is over $2500 OR injury, and our written reports don't go to the insurance company.
