Yea.... Previous owner before it came into the family then to me slapped it on and as you can see not very good. To top it off the hatch is not aligned properly. I have been wanting to take it off but then what to do with the drilled holes?

 

Dude, you have to take that thing off of there! I would find some small caps or gromets or something, spray paint them green and stick them in there. That would be wayyyyyy better. I'd feel so stupid driving around with that.

Haha I might see how bad they did the holes to stick it on there since im realigning the hatch. If its not that bad I might take it to a neighbors garage and have them weld in some patch holes and pay them from the money that I sell the wing for.

I always wanted to take it off but I know something bad is awaiting for me under there.

 

I think some people don't recognize that those lip spoilers are actually spoilers. I've seen the same thing on 4th gen Camaro RS's too. Just goes to show, that if it fits, someone will jam it on there.

I'd have pulled that wing off 5 minutes after buying it & be running around with duct tape patches covering the holes behind, much less have that car in my driveway for neighbors to see....And I don't talk to mine, much less are they good friends or anything!

Haha it has always been a plan to take it off but never got around to do it and haha no one here even knows that its not right and most say it looks good. I never liked it and the more I see it the more I want to take it off and get rid of it and keep RS style. Previous owner really did a job on the car and sadly its one of the better condition ones in my area.

At first glance you can spot some minor things that are not right and can be fixed. The more I scan the car and find things I need to fix the more I want to slap the previous owner who abused this poor cam.

 

Are the mounts for the spoiler on the two center pillars, or on the edges? If its the center pillars, it looks like they are right in the middle of the racing stripes. Might make it easier to hide/repaint later.

 

Edges. If you look closer you can see their not even flush!

I tried giving the bolts a good twist and their freaking almost glued on there. Tomorrow is gonna be a bad day weather wise, So if i have the garage to myself Ill see what I can do. Im taking that thing off once and for all. Hopefully I can make some money of that and the stock airbag steering wheel.

 

Are the mounting bolts through the interior panel? Or does the panel cover the nuts, like it done with stock wings & spoilers?

When I bought my 86 iroc back in 2004 it looked like the 1st picture minus the 91/92 bumper skin which was added by me.The 2nd picture is how it currently looks.The hatch was swapped from an exact same color 1986 sport coupe

 

i had the same as Carlos reg rs spoiler and high rise when i firs bought my 91. talk about identity crisis. mine came off as soon as i bought my car along with the nasty exhaust tips it came with. problem is you must cover the holes or water will leak in. i changed my entire hatch rather then weld in the holes, easier at least to me.

 

I have been known to ad 85 up firebird spoilers to mine. LOL!

 

guess seeing two spoilers is more common than I thought lol. I have a 92 wing but I have not put on due to filling the hole problem. What is the best way to fill it? Weld it or pay 200 bucks for a new hatch are my options at the moment. Anyone have a better idea?

 

Wait till you go look at one of these cars for sale and they have a wing on it that is a wide as the rear of the car and mounts to the rear quarters. When you ask how they get the hatch open....they tell you the don't.

See this was what I was afraid of, Took the wing off. I got greeted by 3 drilled holes on each side. Car does look weird to me since well It wasnt really that of an eye sore but I still knew it wasnt right.

So any ideas to how to patch up these holes besides the usual welding patches in? Local junkyards never or rarely have Camaros there. Even then I am sure It will run me about 75-100 for the hatch.

 

I replaced my spoiler with a high rise. Patched the holes with fiber glass on BOTH sides, being sure to slightly dimple in the holes to allow for the layer of fiber. Add some good body filler and the holes just disappear.

 

Patch them with fiberglass/bondo and if that's the factory color (I'm assuming it is) just get your paint RPO code and buy the proper color of spray paint. I'd rush to get that fixed too hahaha.

 

Well its being garage kept atm. Here is a better picture of the damage the previous owner did.



I kinda knew what I had to do. I will have to order a small fiberglass kit and get it fixed asap. Like I said, damm does the car look weird. Got used of seeing the wing.
