Lexan T-Top Question...

I found these lexan t-tops, but the mounting pins seem to be the larger plastic pins instead of the smaller steel pins...any idea what years these were from and where I could buy the mounts for them? Everyone seems to have the smaller pin mounts!

Re: Lexan T-Top Question...

Both pins styles use the same body mounts. The large plastic pins are spring loaded and retract into the top when latched leaving only the smaller metal inner pin actually latched into the mount.

Thank you for your fast reply! That is great to know! Do you also know what years GM offered Lexan T-Tops?

Re: Lexan T-Top Question...

I could only find those in 91-92 like that around here. My brother unlatched mine and I didn't know it and one blew going down the interstate at 80mph. I could not find that kind because that's what my car uses. Everywhere I looked 90 and older used different pins.

no one much likes the lexan tops - they tend to crackle in the sun.

Re: Lexan T-Top Question...

Anybody polish them with the headlight polishing kit? They should be able to polish up nicely.

Re: Lexan T-Top Question...

I polished mine, after my car sat in the Louisiana sun without moving for three years. They were in terrible shape, had to start with sand paper, then go to rubbing compound, polishing compound and then plastic polish with a buffing wheel. They ended up looking great, but within a few weeks became hazy. I think there is a protective coating on them when new that was gone on mine. I gave up and bought a set of glass ones from an earlier year. A lot heavier, but suddenly no more wind noise that I'd been hearing for ten years. Had to swap the weatherstripping from the Lexan tops to the glass ones, as they were a different shape at the ends.
