Are the spare tire areas reproduced?

My spare tire area is pretty badly rusted - I'm curious if anyone knows if a company makes a replacement. I've seen some floorpan replacements, but never the spare tire floor area.

Thanks!

Re: Are the spare tire areas reproduced?

I don't think they are. I went to the U-pull it with my cordless sawzall and cut out what I needed. If you do that just make sure the piece you cut is larger than you need. It's easier to trim it down than it is to add metal. The hardest part for me was making the patch piece fit the hole or making the hole fit the patch.

This is what I had.

Here it is all cut out. I welded in some tabs to help with fitment.

Here is the patch all trimed and ready to be welded in. I kept the spare tire bracket in place to help hold in the correct location on the car.

Here it is all welded in. You have to tack weld it, making sure to stagger your tacks in order to avoid too much heat, which could result in warping. It looks ugly but you grind the welds anyway. As you can see I started grinding the welds... nice and smooth.

I miss cut the bottom. No worries, it won't be seen so I added a little filler strip

Re: Are the spare tire areas reproduced?

Here it is all burned in. I was careful in grinding the welds so I wouldn't need very much body filler. Just a real thin skim coat is all I'll need.

Here it is all primed and ready to go.

Hope this helps give you an idea as to what's involved. By the way, I just do body work as a hobby and I am not a professional. It's not that hard, just a little practice and some tools. I made some mistakes along the way but learned alot.

Thanks! I thought it came out pretty good. Not sure what the "text book" repair for this was, but It's good enough for me and you can't tell it was repaired.

Do you happen to have the inner wheelhousing in the same area available. I have a similar problem, but also a fist size hole in the back side of the wfeelhoysing that I need to repair.
