So make it into a pin on hood or what? (lol)
So my Daytona/Iroc hood when I bought it it had a screw broken into where the actual hood hinges screw into the hood. I said no problem easy fix. I drilled out the screw and rethreaded for a bigger screw. Now yesterday the actual back plate that looks like its riveted on is very loose and I have a fear of it just breaking loose and hood flying off. So with some hours yesterday thinking of what to do. Which was basically either hood pining the hood on since its not that heavy anyways or finding a replacement.
What do you guys think? I have been having latch issues from this as well since its never a perfect fit. Should I just say screw it and pin it?

all fiberglass hoods are supposed to have pins on at least the front.
you can pin the rear too, or if you are so inclined, you can cut open the underside orf the hood by the broken nut plate and fix it.

I had the RamAir II hood on my 91 and didn't have hood pins. I used the stock latch and hinges. I didn't have struts on them but you can get struts for fiberglass hoods.

Well I don't feel like cutting the hood up. I had a cheap set of Mr.Gasket hood pins I bought a while ago. They are 7/16 thick. I really to be honest do not feel safe with $20 worth of hood pins securing the hood
. They are similar to these. What do you guys think? Get a better set or recommend something better?
Also would 4 be enough?

the issue is the top half of the hood is epoxied to the bottom, and can delaminate at speed with no warning. Its just a safety precaution, doesnt mean every hood will fall apart.

4 would be fine, but unless the rear flops around at speed, you probably only need two in teh front

its not as bad as it sounds. Just cut a hole on the underside of the hood, right behind the bolt plates. remove the broken one, if its destroyed, replace it with a new one (probably have to make it) and epoxy it in. then glass over the hole and no one will ever know you were in there. Glass work is not hard, pretty simple really.

Yeah I use 4 regular pins on my hood, never had any trouble out of it. I trust thosep ins way more than I'd trust the hood not to fold back with only the stock latch on it.
And glass work definitely isnt hard, just tedious and time consuming. Depends on how good you want it to look:

(And BTW, that was after the first two coats of paint, I've gone back over it and fixed that white leading edge... lol.)

Also how did you fix the crack on the edge there? My hood has similar chips and well I am gonna refiberglass the chips soon. Was that your method as well?

the only problem with chrome hood pins are ifyou keep your car outside of any peroid of time, they'll end up rusting out. I would suggest these hood pins, they're cleaner looking and they wont rust out...
