Single piece upper door hinge?

So, like many of you, I'm wanting to replace my door hinge pins to fix the sag. Everything that I have seen about this job shows the upper hinge as two seperate hinges that can be replaced with greasable pins. I just looked at my door and I don't have two pins. The lower and upper pins are single pins that go from the upper to lower holes but they look like two different types of pins. My upper pin looks something like this that I found on Advance Auto.

Anyone had experience with this type pin and how to replace it? Suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Single piece upper door hinge?

That's what I was trying to point out. My hinge is a single piece hinge, not the two piece greasable hinge. Here is a picture of what my upper hinge pin looks like? Ever seen this type?

Re: Single piece upper door hinge?

I wonder if it wasn't replaced by someone, and they put a solid pin in. The only hinges i have seen on my old '86 and '87 are with the solid pin on the bottom hinge. Are both doors the same? Looks like the pin is welded in.

Re: Single piece upper door hinge?

I have owned this car since it was brand new in '86 and the driver door has never been replaced. Oddly enough, the passenger side has been replaced and it has the seperate upper pins. Strange.

The single upper pin isn't welded in. The pin is "splayed" out on the bottom like a rivet would be. That's what hold it in. If it was replaced, it looks like it would have to be ground out.

I just replaced the lower pin and bushings, but I still have door sag. Ifind it odd that there are only two bushings that go into the hinge mounted to the car and no bushings on the hinge attached to the door. Has anyone ever added bushings to that hinge? I'm thinking that the door side of the hinge may have the holes reemed out from years of wear on the pin.

Strange i wonder if the selling dealer you bought it off of had a minor mishap with the door and did a quick fix. That pin definately looks like it has been welded around the bushings.

Re: Single piece upper door hinge?

Looking at it some more, I agree with you guys. It does look like the bushing holes were welded up. My brother had the car for a few years, so maybe he had a problem that I'm not aware of. Anyway, so now I need to figure out how to fix this. There wear on the hinge that is causing the sag is in the hinge of the door, not where the bushing goes in the hinge on the car (that looks welded up). Any suggestions on how to fix that? Would you take it all apart and try and rebuild it like original or use something like the lower hinge pin kit and drill the hinges to the size of the bushings for that kit? Looks like using a hinge pin kit might be easier and cheaper.

Rather than trying to fix it, maybe look for a replacement hinge at a salvage yard or call DENNY at thirdgenranch.com
