Lowering a GTA

I have a 90 GTA and am planning to lower it 2 inches or so. What is the best way to go about doing this? Any particular parts recommended?

Along the same lines, does anyone know if the under side air deflector will smash into the ground if I do lower it? I'm guessing it will, considering I'm riding at factory height now and my air deflector is mostly already gone. Just trying to decide if the air deflector is worth replacing.

Thanks

Re: Lowering a GTA

you need the air deflector, since the firebird solely breath from the underside of the car foor cooling.

drop spindles from racecraft would be the best was to drop the car 2" and keep the people geometry, but they are expensive and bring up other issues if you use wide front wheels with more than 5" os so of backspacing.
alot of people find this to be too low to be practical.

other ways would be drop springs, inatrax i believe is 2" drop, or use weight jacks from groudn control, and you can set hte height where every you want it.

the most expensive way would be air ride suspension, then you could sit the car ont he ground at a show, and raise it back up for the drive home, but to do it right you are looking at a few grand.

I've noticed when turning sharp that the front tires seem to rub against the inner well plastic. Do any of the mentioned solutions get around that? I'm using the factory wheels.

That seems awfully expensive. The springs are 450/ea??

no, the complete weight jack setup, front and rear, with springs or the rate of your choice are 450 total. the drop spindles are 550 for a pair, they are just spindles, more parts are needed.

lowering springs are usually around 200-250 for all 4 springs.

do you have the "front" wheels in the front? they shouldnt rub

I don't think I have my rear/front wheels swapped. I think the deeper set wheels are up front. Its possible the noise I heard was something else (power steering?). How much total would you estimate if I go with spindles? 550/pair and I guess I need 2 pairs, so that's 1100 for spindles only. What are the other parts and how much? I want to go the spindle route.
Thanks

Re: Lowering a GTA

if your paying that much for name brand springs !!!!Yikes!!!!! your money
I purchased Spring tech springs around $149
http://spring-tech.com/ST_COILS.htm
they settled in @ a 2" drop... my cat would scrape the centerline overlap doing a U turn !
if you want to race... your car you will sacrifice launching transfer...
I left my rear springs stock

your front rims absolutely!!!! should not Rub

You only need one pair of spindles. There are no spindles in the rear. If I were you, I would just get the GC Weight Jacks with springs. They are easy to install, and won't limit the width of the front wheels you can run if you ever decide to upgrade.

(I have the spindles and the weight jacks on my car)

Re: Lowering a GTA

i think the deeper wheels go in the back if i am correct. I had the same problem when i bought my car and switched the front and back and no noise at all when turning now.

Re: Lowering a GTA

no...deeper ones in front
just get lowering springs and call it a day....or cut your stock springs (let the disagreement begin)
