White body, black roof?
White body, black roof?
So I just got an '85 Camaro RS F41, 305, auto. It was a steal at $900, especially after a Carfax revealed that it only has 83k original miles rather than the 183k the PO believed (unless someone managed to drive it over 100k miles in a year).
It's clearly the original cream white and the body is in great shape, clear coat is 100%, has the original two-tone stripes at the bottom and everything.
It has a black roof, though, which is clearly not new at all - the clear coat is fading on the edges. Carfax revealed no major body work done or anything like that (though I'm aware that it's not all that reliable, etc), the roof piece is perfectly aligned like new, no dents or anything to signal that it's non-original or it was damaged and repaired at one point.
Was this some sort of dealer option or weird color scheme? It actually doesn't look all that bad (except for the clear coat), had a couple people think it was T-tops from a distance...

Re: White body, black roof?
good deal, good price. My congradulations to you on that.
it's possible that they just wanted a different hood on he car too. it may not have been damaged. with all the wide variety of hoods we have to choose from for our cars, it could have been just a fashion statement on their part.
just a thought. best wishes on your car. *S*

Re: White body, black roof?
I think this all stems from the 1988 35th Anniversary Corvette....White car with White wheels, Black roof, and White seats/door panels with black carpet and trim.
I've seem this scheme on a few other cars (including a 91 ZR1...what a shame!), but I think they're all just trying to copy the 88 35th's scheme. Come to think of it, I think I took a sharpie and painted my 1/25th scale Green 90 ZR1's roof black as well b/c I thought it looked cool. Keep in mind I was maybe 10 years old at the time.
No other car that I know of came from the factory like that.

Yeah, I'll have to take a picture when I find my camera... as I said, well, it looks what a car of that age with a white body and black roof originally would logically look like - white parts fine, black roof with patchy clear coat due to long-term higher temperatures.
It doesn't have the '88 Anniversary Edition color scheme - mirrors are white with the rest of the body; interior is steel grey everything with black dash and appears to my untrained eye to be pretty standard. @camaro-454 - the roof is black; the hood is white and is definitely original (just replaced what appears to be the original hood supports).

Although I specifically remember it saying that this was standard on Z28s, I've seen it on plenty of V6 cars as well.

Negative, I've got a 95 z28 and its all red. No 4th gen hardtop coupes came with black roofs. However, some T-top cars did have black mirrors and a black roof strip behind the ttops. T-top cars did come standard with black mirrors and black roof panel and it was an option to have them painted body color.

Right, depends on t-tops, and still an option...I had a buddy that had a no-option Red 95 Z28, and it of course had the body color roof.

Re: White body, black roof?
The nifty part is solaris specifically stated Z28........ but, regardless... you'd best explain to my '93 that never came the way it is.... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/albu...ictureid=16854 (to the right of the teal hunk of sh-t)
it's a 93Z, original with a black 'cap' and mirrors, no t-tops. I'm fairly positive the 94's were like that as well which, could be considered 'early' cars for the 4th gens since they were the first two years. But, this isn't a site for discussions on those piles of crap.

Re: White body, black roof?
It's my understanding that all Z28's had the black roof standard, body color optional. And the regular coupes had body colored standard and black optional.
This is the wrong place to discuss that though.
