hatch problem

alright sooo my hatch motor decided to take a crap on me soo i disconnected it and tried to like move the motor down so that the hatch would close all the way and the latch wouldnt even hook on to the hatch. so i moved it back to where it did but when i tried it.... it would latch..... so i went and got me a brand new motor and latch to put on and im still having the problem of it not latching on to the hatch but if i just take the assembly and latch it on to the hatch without it being attached to the car it will latch but when i put it on the car and try and shut it..... it would latch.... have tried adjusting multiple times. so i latched it on to the hatch then shut the hatch and crawled into my hatch and bolted it to the frame and then opened it and tried to shut it again and it wouldnt work....... what is wrong?

Re: hatch problem

A mechanic I took my car to when my fuel pump was giving out slammed the hatch down and broke the teeth on the gears in the motor assembly. He didn't know it pulled it down on its own. So, what I did is disconnect it and had to keep adjust the motor little by little till I could just "slightly slam" the hatch down and it would lock. I went through your same dilemma, though. But trust me, there is a sweet spot. Just keep adjusting the sliding motor assembly till it's right.

Re: hatch problem

You've tried adjusting it side to side? so that the latch hook actually engages?

Re: hatch problem

Get someone to shut the hatch while you're inside. Check that the latch is hitting the middle of the striker. If it hits on the edge, well it won't be able to "reach" around the striker.

Re: hatch problem

Did you get it figured out?
Sometimes the switch on the latch will stop the motor before it has gone thru a full up down cycle. Have you checked the switch to see if it's working properly? Hold the little flipper switch arm down with your finger until the motor draws the latch all the way down and then release it and see if the latch comes back up.
