4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
I know this 4th gen wing install has been posted many times and i have went through all the posts and i have yet to find any good ideas for holding the arms down to the glass. please help? Also can anybody that has done this mod please post some pictures of the holes drilled in the decklid for the 4th gen spoiler. I would greatly appreciate any kind of input and pictures.

Use the earlier GTA spoiler rear hatch glass trim, put screws on the arms then slide/clip in place

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
You might find this hard to believe, but there is no need to.
Mine is held on by only 2 mounting studs. 1 for each wing, near the corner of the glass on the deck. That's it & been like that for what? 3 years now?
I drilled 1 hole to drop the 3rd brake light wiring down through the left pedestal. The 2 pedestals are just sitting there. I used their mounting studs to hold the new pieces that were made to fill the gap. But they aren't holding the wing to the deck.
Really...I only have 2 10mm (i think is the size of them) nuts holding my wing on.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
i think he is asking becuase the arms on the 4th gen wing...depending on where you get it look like crap if they arent held down in the right positions.
youll get a huge gap between wing and body where glass shows through...if i remember correctly deadbirds was off by a good amount and the clips that came with the spoiler were pretty weak

Stephen would you mind taking some pictures of where the studs of the spoiler push through the bottom side of the hatch so I know that im in the right area before I drill my hatch...

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
I did do some sanding to the bottoms of my whole 4th gen wing with my DA Sander, to get it to set ore level. Forgot about that!
But in 5 years (i've been in this house 3 & it was a couple years before i moved here), it hasn't ever moved, lifted or anything. I have opened the hatch by pulling up on it & closed it by pushing down on it.

Mine is stacked layers of lexan, then cut to the oval shape then body filler around it (thin) to smooth it out & hide the layer sides.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
I have read that you did that with the lexan and i was going to do that but then it dawned on me that i can get G-11 fiberglass blocks at my work and it probably wont cost me anything.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
I hope you got a LT1 (93-97) wing, not a LS1 (98-02) wing.
I know FYRCHKNS 97 wing sits FLAT, my '02 wing doesn't. Only difference we can figure out is the 97-98 crossover point.
Here are my old pics & pics of his.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
Well here is the thing i bought one off a 96 trans am...(im all familiar with reading the other 4th gen installs) but my posts dont sit flat the slant from side to center and from front to back but I also noticed this slant isnt over more than 3/8 of an inch and and ill take a grinder and grind them flat so that all i have to deal with this the front to back. Im not sure if maybe this rear hatch and spoiler was changed from a later model or if this is the problem that you guys have making the extensions ... but either way i have a fix for it.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
Interesting that you say your 96 wing sits crooked. Sounds like it sits like mine. FYRCHKNs 97 sits flat, my 02 sits crooked. If yours IS a 96 wing, his is a 97 & mine is an 02, there goes my theory out the window!

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
Ill try to take some pics to show you that on my spoiler and its up you but what i want to see is under the plastic interior panel on the inside of the hatch im afraid that i might drill through the support ring that goes around the glass. i think whats going to happen is the hole is going to go right between the support ring and the glass on the hatch panel.

In this pic, you can see where the stock wing bolts too. We welded the holes shut & eventually repainted the deck.

Re: 4th gen wing (mounting the arms) ideas?
Pulled the interior panel off.
Used my calipers. From the edge of the glass.....
Front to back, to center of the bolt....0.82
Sideways, to center of the bolt.....0.36
Up close pics were useless. Either the light washed them out, or it was too dark to make much out.
If you NEED pics to understand what I'm trying to describe, lemme know & I'll try pics again.

Oh yeah....
The front to back measurement I took, was from the edge of the glass. Side to side was from the edge of the metal trim on the glass.
