'91 Camaro 3rd Brake Light Mount

The PO decided to remove the 3rd brake light housing when he installed the window louvers I bought a used 3rd brake light setup on ebay but it is missing the piece that is actually attached to the window. Any idea where I can get the part of the 3rd brake light that is attached to the window? I'm guessing it is just held on with body molding tape or something. Any help would be great!

Yes it is held on by the double sided foam tape. I prommised mine to another person or else I would have it.
Thing you're gonna have to take a sharp putty knife out to the junk yards and search.

Thanks for the reply. I figured I was going to have to hit up a boneyard!

Called Hawks and they said it's all but impossible to remove the mounting pad from the rear glass without breaking the mount. So sounds like I am screwed? I guess I'll toss up a post in the parts wanted section but if someone here reading this has a mount they want to sell, send me a PM!

Another option maybe ....

Some cars had the 3rd brake light mounted in the spoiler. Unless you got lucky, you'd have to have a different spoiler painted to match your car - but you could go with a spoiler-mounted 3rd brake light. I think (not sure) that the spoiler with the thrid brake light was a little different on the porportions (I want to think it was slightly lower in height), so you might have to get all 3 pieces and have all 3 painted to match, but I would think someone would spray them pretty cheaply for you. Only other aspect would be to wire it up - just run wires from the roof (where you already have them) to the hatch and downwards maybe.

Anyway, it's an option if you must have a 3rd brake light.

Another option might be the third brake light assembly that was mounted to the actual roof panel of the car (not the hatch) - again not sure how that attaches but that might be an option.

Only other thing I can think of is an entire hatch replacement from the JY or Craigslist - especially if you desire for the 3rd brake light to be correct for your year.

Hmmmm - wonder if a replacement glass is going to have that preattached? I assume a replacement glass would be expensive (probably cheaper to get a JY entire hatch and have it painted).

Hawks must not know what they are doing then. Thats why they can't do it without breaking them.

Like I stated, take a good putty knife, A flexable one (not the real solid firm ones) so it will got flat to the glass and you can still hold the handle, and use it to cut the double sided tape. You have to push and rock it in there and not pull on the mount.
That tape is tough. Stronger than body side moldings.
But it can be done as I have done it with never breaking the mount.

Besides, if you find one in the yard what do you care if you break it while trying.

The third light in the spoiler had a wider spoiler to fit the light inside so all three sections would be needed.
Also the contacts for that light is the metal contacts on the rear interior panel and the hatch. A person coule be tricky by running some wire along the hatch edge though I suppose.

My 84 didn't come with a third brake light, but we installed a spoiler from a car that did.

We were surprised to find if you open the hatch, and take off the plastic cover inside. The mounting bracket for the electrical contact was there, we just needed to get the spring loaded contact and it mounted right up. We just cut a hole in the plastic, then got the lower contact piece and it looked like it came from the factory with it.

they must have known in 84, that third brake lights were going to be required or something, so they got the hatches ready for them.

The hatch was ready for it because a rear window wiper was an option. They just made the rear spoiler light work with that.

The first rear lights were on top the hatch and were external. Icky looking! Maybe they thought it would aide in down force
