Metro Softseal Door Seals
I just installed a new door metro softseal door seal on my 90 camaro driver's side door. Now the door won't even com close to closing. I have adjusted the striker bolt as much as possible but there is still almost 1/2" till the door closes and is flush with the rear quarter panel. Has anyone else run into this? What should I do now?? Any help would be appreciated, I'm going to hold off on installing the passenger side.

Re: Metro Softseal Door Seals
was the door sagging prior to installing the seals? any scrape marks on the gfx? the seals will be a bit bigger than the originals only in that the old ones have dried and worn out. the new seals will need some time to conform to the contours of the doors, but you should be able to close the door with a little bit of force (a little, not a lot).

If your gap is 1/2", something may be installed wrong and binding. I've done a few sets of those door seals without ANY issues.
Look at the top of the seal where it meets the door panel plastic. Compare it to the known good one on the other side. Look for something obvious/keeping it from closing. The rest of the seal shouldn't even be near 1/2" thick compressed.

Re: Metro Softseal Door Seals
They'll compress after a couple days. When I put them on my car, I could barely get the door to latch at first. Left it sit like that for a day. The next day I could close the door completely, although it took a fair amount of force to do. A week later they worked perfectly.

Re: Metro Softseal Door Seals
Ok I've double checked the installation all looks right. I adjusted the door from where it scrapes on the bottom all the way up as far as it goes trying to close the door at each step. I've also enlarged the hole for the striker bolt and adjusted as far as I could towards the inside of the door as much as possible. I'm at 1/4" from the door being flush with the quarter panel. If I remove the striker bolt and push as hard as I can on the door I can get it flush. Not sure what to do next, hopefully the seal will flatten over the next few days.

Re: Metro Softseal Door Seals
I used SoffSeal weatherstripping on my doors and I had to slam them to get them shut. Even after six months they were still like that. I replaced them with the Metro brand ones and after a few days it was much better.
I won't ever buy SoffSeal again.

Re: Metro Softseal Door Seals
I wanted to say here I just installed a set of door weatherstrip from 1Aauto and was pleased with the quality. I wish they had the plastic inserts like the factory weatherstrip, but other than that, they were perfect. The plastic plugs were all spaced perfectly, and were the right size to go in. Not too tight, not too loose

Going on five plus years for the door weatherstripping from 1AAuto on my 85. Still looks new.
