Re: IROC NASCAR BODY KIT!!

As far as I know, the IROC racers were built exclusively for the International Race Of Champions(IROC), a division of NASCAR. IROC used the 3rd gen Camaro body for several years before switching, sadly, to the Shelby Charger(IIRC). These special Camaros, those that still exist, are museum peices. I highly doubt anyone offers a replica kit.

After the Camaro, it went to the Dodge Daytona for a bit (90-93 though, only the last year of the Daytonas were labeled as IROCs). Then to the turd Avengers before using the T/a's but, that's just iirc... I don't really follow that crap. I just happen to be in the age demographic to remember the change.

Re: IROC NASCAR BODY KIT!!

deadbird, thanks for clarifying. I just remembered it was a chrysler product that replaced the original. The true IROCs were rather incredible cars. 500hp running well over 200mph on the closed course. The drivers loved them. The race of champions was never the same after they dropped the Camaro. In fact I don't think they even hold the event anymore.

Re: IROC NASCAR BODY KIT!!

those were hand built cars. they were NASCAR BUSH series chassis ( I think ) with a hand fabbed body built to a template taken from the production camaro. the gfx were extended a couple inches to keep air from going under the car at 200mph. I also believe the wheel opening was stretched to accommodate the taller tires.

IROC Avengers were important cars, you can find the rear end styling used on allot of cars now, that rear lower bumper filler strip with the bump that made it possiable for the IROC racers to run nose to tail with out any side effects was a big discovery.

Most of them were sold to other series teams back in the 80's & 90's and reskinned to run in other ASA & Late model type series. The IROC series originally started with Porsche in 1974, then 2nd & 3rd gen Camaro's(longest running), Dodge Avengers, and 4th gen Firebirds. The series dropped after lack of sponsorship. Budweiser, True Value, and Crown Royal were the main sponsors... I'm still working on my replica(decals & all) and hopefully done by end of summer. The company that made these cars was in New Jersey I believe, and in 2008 they had an auction and sold everything they had...here some old pic's...........Frank
Look at the top of the fender and you can see how wide it is...

Here is a wrecked one and you can see the car is fiberglass....

Few more pic's....

Here is a Porsche & 2nd Gen Camaro IROC race cars here in town...

4th Gen Firebird...

And the bad *** 3rd gen.....
Hey Frank! I was hoping you would drop in on this post! Nice historical pics! I'm in love with the yellow one! Any pics of yours yet? (New ones, I mean.) Jason.

I always liked the 1st gen Avengers... This current gen is just plain fugly - Looks too short, too tall, and too bulky/fat.

Not to go off topic, But I had 1st Gen Avenger as a Daily Driver. Hated it! I was glad when the Trans Finally blew up @189,000, then I was able to justify not fixing it. Loved the Styling, Hated everythign else.
