Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I'll give first gen to camaro. And tho I really wanted an Iroc when I was in elementary school (when they were new) I have to say that 2nd gen through 4th gen goes to the Firebird. WS6 takes 4th gen hands down.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
i have always picked the camaros.
1. didnt like pop up headlights
2. didnt like the extra slope on the front end.
3. always liked the prominent camaro rear end and taillights.
4. always liked the smaller gauge panels of the camaros

The Trans am still has the Firebird logo on the tail light panel and dash,as well as other accents.
My favorite would be the Trans am too or the GTA.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Pop up headlights
Sloped hood/front end
Better tail lights except base 85 up bird
Nicer gauge panel
However a friend of mine would agree with you on all points. He has a Z28.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I think I like Camaro's better in all gens except for the late second gens. The bandit trans am is just so cool. Otherwise, first gen firebirds aren't as good looking, third gens aren't as good looking, and dear god fourth gens aren't good looking at all. While I hate fourth gens, the Camaro looks so much better than the firebird.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I agree,I thought the fourth gens were a step backward design wise.
They have smaller much more cramped feeling interiors and much more of a jap car look.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
This is really odd, more Camaros were wanted more when they were being made (more Camaro than Firebird production) but now more people like the Firebird based on this poll. Why now maybe Pontiac should come back and make a Firebird

Just the exterior for now. Nose was made by Joe Penko, Ontario Fibreglass, I bought it used for $700.00 and it has 15" Turbo cast wheels.

I hate the fourth gen interior, it looks like my moms 2003 Grand Am Gt's. I think the third gens interior is much better looking IMO.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I have to agree with you there,I think the third gen interior is much better by far than the fourth gen,I really don't like anything about the fourth gen cars compared to the third gens.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Personally I don't care for the Marks Custom Kits nose,it's very inauthentic looking and much to long and droopy.
Was it hard to fit the nose on your car?,bet you worry about scraping the ground all the time.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Definatly a Camaro lover. Just love the aggressive stance it has along with the aggressive front end and I like the rear better as well. Whenever my friends see me driving behind them at night they always get shivers down their spines.
Anytime I see the Firebirds though there are girls driving them except for on one occasion I saw a guy. In the past year I have seen 6 or 7 Camaros all of them having guys driving them except for one RS that this older lady was driving.
So, Camaro = Muscle
Firebird = Sport
I just see Firebirds the same way I see some Mustangs, you can tell that a girl is driving it.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Since many more Camaros were produced than Firebirds, therefore there are many more Camaro owners than there are Firebird owners, and with TGO's membership seeming to reflect this accurately, I expected to see the poll leaning heavily in favor of the Camaro. But surprisingly, the Firebird is leading--at this time.
I've owned both, and the Firebird is my preferred choice, without hesitation. It's a much nicer car in everyway, in my opinion.
I loved my Z28s. Then having driven several new IROCs, I never intended to switch to a Firebird. But due to factors beyond my control, one of which was money--a Formula with the same performance options as an IROC, cost $4000-$5000 less than an IROC--I made the switch to Firebirds, and I was hooked immediately.
Firebirds made Camaros look and feel like they were already a decade old, and nobody was more surprised about that than me.
I don't know how many people had the opportunities to own both cars when each was new, but there was a difference between the two, and I suspect many Camaro owners might've been surprised by how much they'd have liked(maybe even preferred) the Firebird.
As for the perceived "manliness" aspect... James Garner was a real man's man. And Burt Reynolds, well, he always appeared to be too, although today I'm not so sure. But the jury is still out on David Hasselhoff! Hey, it just goes to show that real men aren't afraid to drive a "girl's" car... leading me to believe there are a lot of closeted Firebird lovers driving Camaros. Life is full of little ironies.
Disclaimer: Just kidding Burt and Dave! No slander or libel intended.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I've had 5 Camaros and 1 Firebird... My 91 Formula is growing on me, but the nose on the 'birds is just TOO long. It makes the already short wheelbase stand out more...
As for my personal thoughts... To me, it looks like the Camaro was built first - It has the nice sleek lines all the way around. From the top, it looks good and the rear comes very slightly inward. The side profile looks EXCELLENT to me as the fender lines are straight, then dip downward to the nose.
The Firebird, while nice in it's own right, just looks like an afterthought.... The wider rear end, the longer nose, the little hump in the fender's side profile... it just doesn't flow as well to me. The pop-up headlights are pretty girly if you ask me.
I don't really have a preference on dashes - The 'bird's seems seems to be too busy overall, with it's wide span on the dash.
I do prefer the GTA door panels, though; but over all, the Camaro wins hands down. You can argue all day long about how the Firebird had more options and was more 'luxurious', but we all know they're the same cars underneath - It's just what you prefer.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I agree with Dante, it's all what you prefer. But, I really hate it when people call my firebird a camaro. Yeah ok, I'm dealing with the headlights being up right now but I think the birds look tougher with the headlights down so if I can figure out a way to leave them down and make headlights, like redwraith and I forget who else, that would be cool. But not like the camaro's, but there are some camaros out there that are pretty good looking, but I still prefer the Firebird!

Firebirds/Trans Am's have always looked better. Better interiors I think , one person said birds were girly but I think the camaros with the funky multi color fabrics look more girly than the solid colored firebird/ TA. Exterior styling was better too IMO

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
The only reason for that is because the Camaro was made 1st. I bet if the Bird had been the 1st one to the party we would be seeing a 5th gen Bird on the street today. When people think of hillbillys, ******s and rednecks they think of the Camaro not the Firebird.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Actually if you compare GM brands, Pontiac has always paid more attention to details, quality, and option packages over Chevy. I'm not cutting down Chevy in anyway, but to me the commonly shared platforms of all makes(chevy, buick, pontiac, oldsmobile, gmc, and cadillac) the chevys were the lesser of the brands. Seems that its been that way for years. Chevy styling to me seems common and alittle bland. Pontiacs were sporty. Buicks were classy while the Cadillacs were supreme luxury. Olds was a strange mix of all those and lost its identity.
But back to the subject, I think the Camaros remind me of raw muscle and power while the Firebirds are sleek and sporty. Two different attitudes wrapped up from the same chassis.
I prefer the Firebird most, but you will never hear me knock a Camaro...

Well put!
I have always preferred the Firebirds and found them much better looking both outside and inside than the Camaro's.
I think you're right too, that if Camaro owners had to drive a Firebird for a week they'd be hooked.
Even the Firebird logo is cool and has become an popular icon even though they don't make Firebirds anymore.
GM really F$$ked up there.

This is interesting and why GM made both cars. My opinion is the exact oposite. I feel like the designers took a little more time making the 'Birds look more fluid.

Chevy was supposed to seem more bland. it was supposed to be the 'everyman' company. a company that was affordable by the average joe.
Chevrolet continued into the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s competing with the Ford brand, and after the fairly new Chrysler Corporation formed Plymouth in 1928, Plymouth, Ford, and Chevrolet were known as the "Low-priced three"

I love both and originally wanted a Camaro. I voted Firebird, though, because that's what I ended up buying. I agree with Firehawk, that you'll never hear me knock a Camaro, either. All f-bodies are great.

Weren't there a lot of high-end cars that had pop-up lights at that time (corvette, lamborghini, porsche, ferrari)? Not exactly anyone's list of top girly cars, IMO. Actually, all those features sound like those found on the afore mentioned cars...

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
You can't compare the two.
Thirdgen camaro's look brute-ish, You can tell there's plenty of 2nd gen styling cues put into it, Its made to look masculine with a bit of "sport" thrown in because well, it was the 80's, Ferrari posters in every boys bedroom.
Which brings us to the firebird, Absolutely not bruteish, nor are they masculine. They're made to look more like a foreign car. Yes, they're streamlined looking.
Although, Pre-Iroc styling camaros, specially the sport coupes with no ground effects look like ugly little pugs. where ALL year thirdgen firebirds look good in some way.

I would partially disagree. Yes, Camaros do have the forceful look of the 1st/2nd gen cars, but sleek does not necessarily mean not masculine. Is this car not masculine?

I honestly haven't viewed corvettes as "masculine" in quite some time, Not saying non-masculine cars are bad, its not an insult lol.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Firebird / Trans Am all the way.
I used to be very biased against the camaros, until i started reading this forum pretty much everyday. They are pretty damn well the same car, excluding appearances.
Ive never liked the interior, or the rear end on the camaros, those rear lights just look shitty :/
if the front end is done up right i dont mind them on the camaro
overall i love the interior design on the birds, same as the rear end
as for girls or hicks driving camaros/firebirds
i pretty much live out in the sticks, and everyone and their grandma has a camaro either sitting in the yard, or 6 of em in the field. havent seen any birds sitting around though goes to say somethin there

i'm all for the firebird's. i mainly prefer firebirds on all generations. other than 4th gen pre LS1. i prefer the Camaro styling over Firebird of those years.
