Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I've had 2 camaros and 1 T/A. I like the look of both, but give the T/A's a slight advantage to the TA because they just look a little meaner with the gfx when the headlights are down
Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Well, for me it's Camaro all the way. I just wish I could explain why. Honestly, I feel like the thirdgen (and late fourth for that matter) Firebird is more polished in appearance and for all intensive purposes looks a lot nicer. It even has a nice profile compared to cars of today. Their interiors (not so much fourth gen in this category) also feel more refined and better thought out.
But I just really prefer the Camaro and can't put my finger on why.
As for the girly comments, I mean really guys? I mean, when I think girly car, I don't think of either one of these cars, I automatically picture a v6 Mustang.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I've ALWAYS looooooved the Trans Am model and prefer it over the Camaro, but never really cared for the base Firebird model. With that said, I've always liked the IROC. The first 3rd Gen car I rode in was an '85 Z28, and then a few years later I rode in a brand new red IROC that belonged to a friend of the family. Man, I will NEVER forget how awesome the exhaust note sounded on that car!

I love the look of the Trans Am. Camaros are just to common in these parts still although my first love was a 82 blue z28.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
In my humble opinion when Pontiac lost their engines the firebird/transam just became a camaro option. Which has been GM's problem and MO for the last three decades. Remove mechanical individuality and badge engineer. Having actually owned four Pontiac-Powered-Pontiacs over the last 15 years, the third and fourth gens, while good looking cars, to me are just camaros with popup lights. So if I'm going to drive something with a Chevy engine, it might as well have a chevy badge on it.. so for the purpose of voting on third gens, I say Camaro.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I definitely agree that 1st gen, camaro wins, and 4th gen, firebird wins, but for 2nd and 3rd, I think both look good, I love firebird GTAs and IROC-Zs about equally, and a 2nd gen TA with the bird on the hood, and racing stripes on a 2nd gen z28, both look awesome to me.

i agree..i like trans ams too,,,i own a camaro now,,,but when pontiac had basically the same engines like chevy ,,i lost all respect for gm..GM has made so many stupid mistakes over the last 30-40 years,,,who advises these gm guys?...so many gm garbage was put out over the years...gm cut corners and and thought the buying public was dumb...so many cars and trucks over the years were made and to only either be discontinued and/or have the name changed on the vehicles ,,,but they were excatly the same vehicle....i hope gm has learned a lesson or two over the years!

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
I choose firebirds, because, I grew up around 2nd gen and 3rd gen Trans ams. And I'll always love'em. Also, and let's be honest here, the name firebird is soooo much cooler then camaro, and Firebirds have giant Fire breathing turkeys on their hoods! how can you beat that?
Also it seems that fire birds are a bit... rarer? I don't see them as much as camaros. so i like that too.

I own an '84 Z28 and my owns an '85 T/A. We both like each others cars, but I think a poll would say more men drive '67-92 F-Body's. If digging deeper, I bet more women have V6s and men have the V8s. That is the true test of man versus woman owning the cars for any generation, except the 5th Gens, which just cost a lot, and whereas even the 5th Gen V6s produce respectable power.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Pretty hard to say. When I had my 92, I loved it thought it looked amazing but then 85-90 T/A's started growing on me and I drifted away from Camaros. Now everytime I see an Iroc I want to ditch my 86 body and pick up a Camaro shell..
I might just have to get another Camaro to keep me satisfied.

After seeing a lot more of them while I've been car shopping, I'm really liking the the 1987-90 Firebird Formula. It's become a close second to my favorite, the 1987-89 IROC-Z.

My favorite is the camaro, that's why I own two... I would still love to own a GTA trans am though, and a buddy of mine has a straight up nasty '74 TA with a built 455 that will smoke damn near anything, but when I ask myself which car has the most complete package I hafta go with the Camaro. Easy seat swap and a few other minor changes and you have the perfect car.

Ponitac Firebirds, that's why I own two!! Look awesome, aerodynamic!! Cool exterior and interior, always liked the pop up headlights, gives the car a cleaner and sleaker look.

Actually the camaros are, they weigh less, aka. faster, lol.
Oh, and we have those awesome dual snorkel cold air intakes
And I know a lot of people prefer the bird interior, but imo the camaro interior has elegance in simplicity, but then I wanted a camaro without frills too, and gutted most of my interior, so what do I know, lol.

I wouldn't call the birds girly by any means, but I would say the birds have a sleeker sportier look to them, while the camaros have a more aggressive, muscular look to them. Which is probably more what he meant.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
Well as for the third gens id have to say Camaro, but base models, LTs, Berrentias (sp?) Are hideous. I dislike most third gen firebirds as well however I love gtas and 91 92 TAs. Same for the Camaros, those are my favorite years. I find all 4th gen Trans Ama sexy as hell, while a lot of the Camaros of those years need a lil something to look decent. As for first gens I like them but feel they're overrated, and most seconds look awesome.

Camaro's all day long... Firebirds always remind me of chick cars like the sunbird/sunfire name, and how much I despise Pontiac.
Let's not forget the newer firebird/sunfires look similar lol. I think this is where all the "girly" comments are coming from.

. The only thing worse might be some sissy, girlish thing like a Ferrari, porsche, or lamborghini.
OMG, I mean like how feminine to be driving around in all those curves!
Yup just put me in a box and roll me down the street, Camaro, mustang, coffin...doesn't matter, just keep it plain and dull.
For the record, those years firebirds came out before the sunfire, so the sunfire's nose was taken from the birds, not the other way around.

Firebird any day of the week. Plus I really hate the styling of Chevy cars. That's why I drive Grand Prixs which look decent stock and can be made to look cool and not Impalas which look like rental cars.

I was all about the camaro until i went shopping for a car then I was all about the firebird / trans ams. Ended up with a maui blue 89 formula. I think the headlight problems were the thing that turned me off. There's nothing worse looking than a firebird in the daytime with the headlights popped up. Once you figure out that its not terribly hard to fix those lights, then is all good from there. Firebirds all the way, ALTHOUGH a third gen Z28 black and gold with t tops is one sick looking motherfu*$ing ride!

- Overuse of sarcasm in a post = Fail.
- Overuse of sarcasm usually dictates you are a teenager.
- You just compared the shape of a SUNFIRE to a LAMBORGHINI? LOL
- Remember, I said they were similar in shape and design, therefore you comparing a firebird to a lambo is the same as a sunfire to a lambo if you take into account my statement in regards to your response.
- Look at the marker placements, windows, contouring lines, even the front bumper...similar.
- Never stated the firebird stole the design from the sunfire, I guess some people chose to read what they want, even if it isn't there.
- You fail. Try again.

Re: Firebird vs. Camaro which do you prefer?
The GTA is the ultimate 3rd Gen hands down! I prefer the 87-90 models most. They are less common than a Iroc-Z and less likely to be seen in a trailer park. The Camaro cut out headlight section also looks dated. I have owned a dozen second gen T/A's including Bandit cars and still have my white 73 T/A and my Flame Red 87 GTA. I also owned and 84 Z-28 from new and I really did love that car when I had it, but the interior isn't as nice as a GTA. I would not shun a Camaro however. I'd still take an Iroc any day if I can find one that wasn't rode hard and put to bed wet! As for the T/A being a girls car?? I never saw a girl drive any third gen T/A. That's what "Mudstains" are for so get it right dummies. Girls like cars that are short and cute, not long and sleek. In conclusion there really is no right or wrong here, but I always tend to gravitate to what is harder to find.
