replace or repaint?

Hey guys...so I've come to this dilemma of replacing my formula's wrap around, its the stock rubber anchor that is half missing paint that keeps chipping and cracked on the edges and is leaving white streaks on my paint....now Would I be better off to bondo the cracks and just repainting the beast or replacing it....rather which would be best in the long run.

Re: replace or repaint?

i don't have a 'bird so I'm not sure, my best guess is to replace if the wing is cracked. I'm sure someone with a bird will chime in soon and give you a better answer.

Re: replace or repaint?

yeah of all materials to use...i was a little confused why they used Rubber...but looking back, alot of parts used on thirdgens were questionable...infact all of the 80s were questionable.....LOL

Re: replace or repaint?

You could Band Aid it, Like I tried to do in 03, But your best bet is to just replace it.

I am going to eventually get a Fibrglass one. Love the Look of the factory Spoiler, so don't wanna swap to a standard Bird Spoiler. The weight savings of the Fiberglass is just a bonus. I am also going to get a Fiberglass Decklid as well.

The bondo would just be a temperary fix. Its only goint to keep cracking. Get a glass one like MNformula350 said. I have to get one myself. My stock spoiler is missing chunks neer the window.

Re: replace or repaint?

I realize the fiberglass spoiler is expensive, but I'd have to agree with replacing it. Mine's still good, but if it ever begins to go bad, I'll replace it with the fiberglass wing.

Once they begin to crack and split, the shape of the wing will warp and deform. So even though you might be able to fill and patch the cracks, the shape can't be corrected easily, if at all, and it will probably continue to get worse anyway. So the best thing to do is replace it.
