Hood clearance for supercharger

So I'm finishing up my ZZ4 install with a 144 supercharger sitting on top of my 85 Iroc. 2 things I need help with.

1. I love the look of the SS hood and would like to get it but would the hood clearance clear it with a low pro air filter?

2. I don't care for the cowl hood look and might just cut out and fab my Iroc hood. Anyone have a template of theirs with the supercharger cutout?

Thanks!

1. I don't have a 144 on mine, but I needed a 4" cowl WITH a low profile air cleaner to fit it. It's so close the air cleaner that the wing nut barely dented the inner panel on my hood - if that gives you an idea if the SS hood would fit....so I guess no help here...

2. Even with my blower, about the only things that would be above hood level is the carb and air cleaner...or scoops if that's what you're in to. The actual blower will most likely be below the stock hood line. Take a few measurements and you'll see what I mean. Now, if you had a nice polished 6-71 or 8-71 blower.....I keep thinking about that in the near future for my car...

Take a string and run it across the fender tops and do you measurements from the highest point on the assembly......remember the engine will rock so if it is very tight at rest it still might hit under acceleration.

for what it is worth this is a B&M 144 with a 2" carb plate on it and a factory hood.

No....even back then with the stock radiator it was not a problem.....with 7.5:1 static compression at idle/low RPM you dont have the heat issues from high compression .

Re: Hood clearance for supercharger

Thanks guys. Military clone, I know you said those pics were from long ago, but any chance for a templete for the hood cut out?

I haven't finished throwing it all together yet. Have the ZZ4 with the 144 (Hi comp ratio I know but I only plan on running 6 lbs with the new pistons that are in) Have a methanol injection kit with a 50 shot of nos on a double plate to help get a little more pickup while keeping everything nice cool and highly octaned. I'll let ya know in about 2 weeks when it's done and finished being broke in.

Anyone know how much higher an SS hood is than an Iroc hood? I think it's 2"s in the blower area but just wanna make sure.

I think you were asking me that??? I have done 3 hoods over the years but always started with new measuments so no template. One thing to be aware of is that the engine is not perfectly centered in the car......it sits slightly off to one side.

Re: Hood clearance for supercharger

Hi boss, i am riding a 86 trans am with a 91 full conversion, back halved, 4 link, ford 9" cadillac disk brakes out back. I have a 468 bbc with a 177 supercharger and a plate kit with a 250 shot in between. I have a hood template but i think it will be different with a bbc versus a sbc. Heat wise, i started out with issues but traced it back to a bad water pump and one of the twin electric fans was pushing instead of pulling. Now it stays at 180 but it hasnt gotten that warm out here in Va yet this year. just got it on the road after a five year build...... Not running a hood right now because it pulled the wheels on a pass last fall and popped the hood latch which decided to flop the hood back in my face at half track. If someone sends me a email address that can host and post a couple pics for me, i will send them some. (Dont have a photobucket account). Car is badazz and rolls heads when its beating the streets.... even snuck right past a couple staties so far this spring and its crazy loud.
3" dumped in front of the wheels with open chamber spintechs and super comp headers..
i do have a 144 weiand huffer like above also..... its on my 71 caddy demo derby car.

mudmaster. my email is tcouty@hotmail.com I'd love to see it. I am halfway finished with my template so I can try it out on a junkyard hood I got so as to not mess mine up
