Westher Stripping Rejuvenation?

Hi all!

I've heard that petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) works well to rejuvenate weather stripping on third gens. Has anyone used this method and does it work?

My rear hatch stripping is leaking a bit and I'm hoping there is a simple fix for it. It's an 86 Sports Coupe.

I don't think it will fix your leak, but will help in keeping the rubber from cracking over time. don't use it often. After using it once, make a habit to armorial all your clean plastic, rubber, dash, and seals around windows and door rubber. I do it about once a week, when I wash my car! Helps to maintain and keep your parts from cracking and braking.

Thanks for your quick reply. I remember that the person who mentioned this repair, and this must have been at least 6 or 7 years back, said that the Army used this method to keep their weather stripping supple and well sealed for their vehicles in the desert. Seeing as you live in Arizona, it must work fairly well for you, eh?
