mini tubbing V.S flaring fenders on a 91 RS

im planning on more agressive set up than my 305 TBI, 400 sbc, connected to a 700R4, 3.73s in the back. id like to say blast from the past, but the flash of the gas. im humoring myself of coarse. And as the more i think of it, the more i say this thing will prob have more low end grunt, so im not wanting the wheel spin all that much. So if i do go with this mini tub, whats the costs, what will i have to do? And flaring the fenders, ik what i should do, itll prob be cheaper, but idk if i can pull looks off. So please, anyone that has had any experience with there 3rdgen like this, could you help me? Im open to suggestions. I wanna put P215R55/15s on the back

You can already fit 215/55/15 on the back with out tubing.

Re: mini tubbing V.S flaring fenders on a 91 RS

If you're looking to avoid wheel spin I would recommend a wider and larger tire. 215/55/15 is actually smaller than the stock size of 215/65/15 or 235/60/15. Your best bet would be the 235's but I would actually go wider to a 255 and you could run those on all four corners without having to tub or flare your fenders. With the wider and lower profile tires you increase your handling and responsiveness. I always thought the 215's were too skinny and look out of place on these cars.

flares, metal ones anyway, will cost a lot more since you have to spend a lot of time getting the sheetmetal straight, and re-paint the car afterwards.

But again, that tire is tiny, no need for any work to fit it.

hell with a tire that narrow and short, you shouldnt need anymore power to spin it, let alone even consider modifications

That sounds more like what he means. I am running 255's on the back and 245's on the front because any thing larger up front tends to rub on sharp turns.

Re: mini tubbing V.S flaring fenders on a 91 RS

i made a serious error there guys sorry, i was messed up with tire measurements, and i googled it and thought the 55s meant wider. Idk but someone ik was talking bout those being drag radials. I thought that was tire width, but then i googled it and i found out true tire width and height and all that good stuff so now i got my know how. Sorry bout b4 im really embarrissed bout that. Your running P295s with out any problems? I am currently running P235 75R15s on the back, its a lil high.

I am using the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, DOT approved, they about 195 a piece, but I have found them for 200-250 a pair in nice used shape between here, ebay, and racingjunk.com

Re: mini tubbing V.S flaring fenders on a 91 RS

Without modifications I think you can go to 275 width, 75 wall is a lot, esp on a 15" rim, the stock 14" rims had either 70 or 75 walls(can't recall which) for a 15" rim I would probably go with a 65 wall, as for me, I have 225/60r16s on the rear and 215/55r16s on the front, but I had to work around the rims I bought having the wrong tire sizes =/ Wish I had wider, when I buy all new tires for it I'll probably run 245/55r16s up front and something like 265 or 275/55r16s in the back.

Yeah, I don't have much trouble spinning my pegleg, though its freakishly silent, I swear there is virtually no noise from the tires...

well speaking of the P275/60R15s, i have a moderate looking set, might last for a lil while, wont be pulling no boners with these like 100+ cause they rated steet tires. Atleast i think. 1/2 tread life.. So here they are P275/60R15s and im having them giving to me. My cousin dave comes across these all the time, didnt pay for em, he said i could have em.. Well its a lil off topic but dave my cousin has a nasty 400 sbc, he has four of these, and he was gonna use em for burn out contest.

I had 245 35 17s up front and 315 35 R17 on the rear never touched you will have to hammer away to fit a 325 though but can still be done without tubbing it out just an inpact and a BFH (big F**King hammer)
