Gfx repair?

Gfx repair?

What might i use to repair my front
lip gfx?, theres small gouges in parts of it that appear to be able to be filled in..
also in the front center theres a Worn down section thats developed a hole through the gfx. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Ive had excellent luck with duraglass, cant even tell my gfx were as bad as they were, I even had tears in mine, hotknifed them back together and filled it with duraglass then went to work sanding, as a warning power/air tools are NOT recomended for gfx or anything that isnt metal, itll get eaten up quick then you have to reglass it and start over lol no fun when you can just be patient and do it by hand.

Ita like a fiberglass bondo, tried regular bondo with no luck and then the fiberglass version which was a bit better but duraglass worked the best, make sure you prep the area properly though, nothing really plays well with the painted surface lol

There is a urethane flexible adhesive made by overcoat that you can use to fill holes or fix rips and cracks. Works great

ya my gf's dad just about ripped my tongue out when i mentioned putting bondo on fiberglass (or whatever that part is made of)..lol.

the stuff proper name evercoat maxim 885. if you search ebay, you will find a seller that has them for a great price. I just picked up 3 bottles of it for less than $10 a bottle

I just shaved my GFX and front emblem as well as some gouges, etc. in all the plastic parts. I used 3M's duramix products with outstanding success. I also used Evercoat's POLYFLEX (which gets mixed like bodyfiller) to smooth out the recessed areas after applying the 3M stuff. You'll also need a big can of adhesion promoter I don't have the part numbers handy but I'll post them when I can

Part #'s 1. 3M Duramix 4240 plastic repair semi-rigid for rips and tears
2. 3M automix 5887 EZ sand flexible parts repair
3. fiberglass evercoat 411 poly-flex flexible polyester glazing putty
I then primed everything with SEM flexible primer......If you goto youtube and do a search for 3M plastic repair there is a demo on how to fix these parts

Wow I feel ghetto for just duraglassing them lol I guess im a perfectionist I just sanded, cleaned with acetone, filled and sanded again til it was smooth lol I think ive spent too much time smoothing out fiberglass boxes to even think of using anything else haha

So now you have multiple roads, pick your poison and get to it lol

Pics? I am tempted to shave the rocker emblems on the skirts and rear bumper myself. What is the best way to accomplish this? I do have to repair my passenger '92 skirt from damage.

The first pic is the finished and primed right side rocker......the left side still nedds to be primed......the last pic is an aftermarket front cover (they're stiffer IMO) All three were scuffed with a 50 grit disc on a right angle pneumatic grinder...make sure to bevel the edges of the recessed area or it will be a PITA to hide the lines. With the rocker GFX, I then cleaned the area and applied adhesion promoter, then filled the area in with 3M 5887......sanded that smooth to 220 then used a few coats of polyflex applied with old gift cards (can't have enough) to get it uniform....then sanded to 220 and primed with SEM flexible primer. The nose was done the same, but the first step was to apply that foil body tape to the emblem area and use 3M 4240 to fill in the mounting holes. I'm not in a hurry with this project so I just took my time and sanded, reapplied filler, sanded, reapplied....etc. til I got it right. I should be shooting paint this weekend.
Oh yea......apply the filler from front to back and use a wide enough card/applicator.....if you go top to bottom you'll have 2 or 3 verticle body filler ridges to deal with

I have some cracks and tears in my front chin spoiler.Would you use the Duramix 4240 or Automix 5887 to fix them? There kind of expensive, so I didnt want to buy one if I didnt need to. Thanks

I would use both......the 4240 fixes the rip or tear and the 5887 is used like body filler.....don't forget to drill a SMALL hole at the end of any crack...it keeps it from going any further

some great info in here. adding some 91 camaro side effects to my ta and was looking to get rid of the front emblem recesses the right way, along with getting rid of 20+ yrs of dings and oopses.
